Hi,
First thing, I want to say a big thank you to everyone on this site. I have learned so much from you all. The way you help people and share your knowledge is admirable.
I only joined this site very recently. I have only had thyroid issues for about 3 years, so a newbie.
Anyway, short version of my journey. Went to Dr with no symptoms apart from not being able to lose weight. Blood test result came back and Dr prescribed Levothyroxine. I immediately piled on a stone in weight, heart-breaking as this is what I'd gone to the Dr for in the first place. Kept complaining to the Dr about my weight and was brushed off every time. I also got about 15 really bad symptoms including the horrendous brain fog, I had none of this when I was ignorant of my condition, I would have been better off with no treatment.
Did my own research and decided I wanted to try NDT. Told my Dr, totally refused. Therefore, I got my own. I was taking 3 Thyroid S tablets. Immediately ALL the bad symptoms vanished and I could lose a bit of weight if I tried really hard.
Anyway, I found this site and read a lot about what people were saying about needing T3. I thought that if the bit of T3 in the NDT helped me a lot, maybe some actual T3 would be even better. A lovely person on this site responded and I have only been on T3 for over a week but already I have had no symptoms and have lost 4lbs without having to try. All along I knew that I shouldn't be this weight for the small amount I eat but the Dr didn't want to know. I take 2 of my thyroid S and 25mcg of T3.
My question is, has anyone in the UK who has done well on their own acquired T3 then gone on to have it prescribed by the NHS when they've proved it works for them?
Also, I keep accepting the Levo as I feel I have to hide what I am doing from Dr's. I feel like if I don't pretend I take it, I'll get my free prescriptions stopped which I don't want to happen now that I'm having to pay for my thyroid treatment.
Thanks again.
