I have high Hashimoto antibodies, high gluten antibodies, and now PBC (primary Billiary Cirrhosis) anyone else have this? Been hypothyroid for 15 years never once did they check my antibodies, I’ve suffered with gall bladder and intestinal pains/attacks all my problems started the day I got pregnant 😩

Hi Joanne, Wow! What are you and your doctor doing to get you back to health?

Yes, back then I wonder if anyone had antibody testing. Pregnancy can have a huge impact on hormones but I always felt better. I thought the prenatal vitamins might have been why. Fatty liver is a hypo problem and you know you have to stop the gluten. There are coconut flours and almond flours that you can substitute for a bread like texture. Are your blood tests for thyroid in a good range. Sometimes even after years, you need to change your dose of thyroid hormone.

My Endo told me the news yesterday and did not talk about any treatment or plan, just said ok I will see you in 6 months!! I’m on Thiroyd and I alter my own dose all the time so I’m doing ok with that, that’s the least of my worries now 😩

Hopefully someone will soon let you know the best protocol to follow for dealing with your GP with your thyroid 'now that you know'. I think it'd be very, very useful if you posted your latest blood results to include full thyroid panel + vitamins otherwise it's somewhat difficult to advise you and you won't get as many replies.

Gall bladder problems exist in my family too along with a lot of autoimmune illness (both sides) - luckily for me I changed diet in the nick of time as I was becoming diabetic. When you have IBS symptoms, from my experience, it's often best to go gluten and dairy free due to leaky gut.

I know that NAC (supplemental amino acid, so can be bought off prescription) is used in hospitals to help with both liver and lung issues. There is a PBC forum on HealthUnlocked, so maybe you could check there?? NAC can help with thyroid as well by some accounts on here as it helps with synthesis of glutathione (powerful antioxidant). My personal experience of it is that it meant I needed to take more Magnesium (I seem to have a defect that makes me lose Magnesium easily) at the same time or I'd end up with leg cramps.

I will post results after work, I did the auto immune paleo diet, so I know my triggers now. Ihave tried NAC but not for long but I’m also having lots of symptoms of perimenopause

Perimenopause seems to send adrenals off whack (probably due to the fact that progesterone declines earlier than oestrogen) so you can try and give adrenals some assistance either through diet or some supplements*. Oestrogen dominance is a problem for many and can impair thyroid hormone conversion.

Also, very important to get vit d checked. Low vit d must be addressed as a priority. Good (but not above range) vit d levels help the liver and as it's a master hormone (it's not really a vitamin at all) it works with the other hormones including thyroid.

* Magnesium, zinc, B12, B6 (ideally in p-5-p form), B5 and vitamin C all work to help deal with cortisol balance during all stages of menopause. B6 is very good at reducing that bloated feeling - it has a diuretic effect. Finding dietary sources is probably preferable if you have a liver problem: You absolutely must double check that none of these (in supplement form) will make a liver condition worse especially if you may also have impaired kidney function and need to go easy on some supplements which is probably why NHS doctors are wary of them (B vitamins and Magnesium are examples of things that are excreted by the kidneys, so put an extra 'load' on them).

Yes I have loads of perimenopause symptoms,I have been taking progesterone without their approval but it’s stopped all the bloating and nausea, he didn’t test my bit d as it’s summer but I always take vit d supplements in winter I take a lot of vitamins but never feel any benefit 😞

Very good advice from HLAB but you should insist on vitamin D. I took thousands of i.u.s and also get a deep tan every summer and still deficient. It is a prohormone that helps other hormones work but our skin doesn't convert sunshine well I guess.

I agree with Heloise - taking vitamin d is not a 'given' to having good levels. If doctor won't test (not sure why they use summer as an excuse) there are private labs. I'll probably be doing one soon to gauge where I am, as well.

Neither did I (feel any benefit) until my gut was properly healing, thyroid levels improved and I ditched cyanocobalamin for methylcobalamin. Having an excess of folic acid is also not a good idea which is why a vitamin panel is so useful.

Hi Joanne I am the same as you and your Dr being useless, I never really bothered about my health until I became very ill 10 months ago and was diagnosed with Coeliac , got my own bloods done privately and found out from greygoose on this site I have Hashimotos as my gp doesn’t bother with these blood tests , I have took lots from the forum ref vitamins , minerals and change of diet , gluten free, dairy free and soy free, tried /trying sugar free. My doctor not interested in my health just quick to give out anti depressants, beta blockers . So I have had to heal myself . Try the home blood tests .
