Hi, I'm new here, and so pleased to have found a supportive site, but dismayed to see so many of us are in the same situation regarding NDT.
I've been on levothyroxine for 10 years. It seems to have brought my T4 levels to 'within the normal range', but I'm still overweight, have IBS, severe anxiety, brain fog... and so on, in short, nothing much has changed in a decade.
My GP won't prescribe NDT as it's against the guidelines in the East Midlands.
I am desperate, but wary of buying from abroad as not sure how to check I'd be getting the genuine article. Is there anyone who's found a reliable supplier? If so, please share! A nurse at my surgery said another patient has bought it online and within two months it has changed her life. But she can't share more details. I understand why, but it's SO frustrating.
Help!

Anyone who sells T3 or NDT without prescription in the UK is breaking the law, and on that basis I wouldn't trust them. But you can buy it online and import it into the UK quite legally. You might have to pay VAT and admin fees to import it though, although not if you buy it from the EU. What happens after Brexit is anyone's guess.
I can understand why you are wary. But if you ask for reliable suppliers from abroad you should get some replies. I'm not up-to-date on the places that T3 can be bought, but I know people are still doing so.
Thank you humanbean, I look forward to getting the info on trusted suppliers abroad.
There are so many ‘ad-on problems’ associated with hypothyroidism that it would probably cost the nhs less in the long run to provide NDT than the repeat prescriptions for antidepressants, buscopan, sleeping pills, sumatriptan etc that are happily dished out to me on a monthly basis, and all put down to my thyroid - hey ho!
I’ll be moving to a new town before the end of the year. I feel I should trawl all the GP surgeries to see if any prescribe it... but I don’t have the energy 😯. Maybe it’ll return enough when the heatwave passes. I LoVe autumn, winter and spring!
If you get anywhere with ndt I’d be interested in update - I too am in East Midlands and have a rubbish time with doctors- paid privately to see endo in Sheffield who will prescribe t3 at a cost but to be honest doesn’t seem to be doing a lot for me - I’m a decade down the line and feeling worse by the yr, hope you find an answer and get the support at your new doctors/area
I will close your post for answers on the forum. Those members who source their own NDT or T3 will respond by Private Message as no information is permitted on the open forum.
Doctors used to prescribe NDT - in use since 1892. Due, I believe, to persuasion by Big Pharma that levo was best. Most on this forum found levo was not the best for them.
They also used to prescribe T3 - that has also been withdrawn due to suppliers increasing it by 6,000%.
Also the BTA did not do any favours when the published an article with False Statements about it:
One of our Advisers wrote the follow to both organisations the following and despite three yearly reminders for a response they never did and Dr Lowe died through an accident.
