Vitamin D results - Deficiency. Advice required please

Hi everyone,

I just got my vitamin D results and wondered if anyone can help with supplementing. I know I also need vitamin k2 and magnesium alongside. But how much vitamin D should I supplement? I'd prefer an oral spray. I have better you 1000iu oral spray here but do I need a stronger one? Also what is an optimal level? I've attached my results as a photo. Hopefully you can see it. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

I would follow the normal NICE Clinical Knowledge Summary for Vit D deficiency when level is <30

cks.nice.org.uk/vitamin-d-d...

"Treat for Vitamin D deficiency if serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) levels are less than 30 nmol/L.

For the treatment of vitamin D deficiency, the recommended treatment is based on fixed loading doses of vitamin D (up to a total of about 300,000 international units [IU] given either as weekly or daily split doses, followed by lifelong maintenace treatment of about 800 IU a day. Higher doses of up to 2000IU a day, occasionally up to 4000 IU a day, may be used for certain groups of people, for example those with malabsorption disorders. Several treatment regims are available, including 50,000 IU once a week for 6 weeks (300,000 IU in total), 20,000 IU twice a week for 7 weeks (280,000 IU in total), or 4000 IU daily for 10 weeks (280,000 IU in total)."

I would buy the BetterYou 3000iu spray and take as follows

Weeks 1 & 2 - 9000iu daily (126,000iu)

Weeks 3 & 4 - 6000iu daily (84,000iu)

Weeks 5, 6, 7, 8 - 3000iu daily (84,000iu)

Total = 294,000 over 8 weeks which is close enough to the full 300,000iu loading doses.

Weeks 9, 10, 11, 12 - Continue with 3000iu daily then retest.

Once you've reached the level recommended by the Vit D Council - which is 100-150nmol/L - and then you'll need a maintenance dose which may be 2000iu daily, maybe more or less, maybe less in summer than winter, it's trial and error so it's recommended to retest once or twice a year to keep within the recommended range.

As for Vit K2-MK7, 90-100mcg daily is enough for up to 10,000iu D3.

Thank you so much seasidesusie that's great advice and I will follow your plan :) Is it quite safe to take such high doses and will there be any side effects? Also should It all at once for example 9000iu 3 sprays? I've heard it's better to take in morning as it can disrupt sleep if taken too close to bedtime? Also I was planning to introduce my supplements one at a time for two weeks incase of any adverse reactions. Should I take the k2 and magnesium right away with vit D? Thanks again. I really appreciate all the advice I've recieved here.

Everyone is different so it's not possible to say if you will experience any side effects. All I can say is that when my level was 15 I used D3 softgels at 40,000iu daily for 2 weeks then reduced to 5000iu daily and I was fine, but that's not something I ever suggest on here. If you prefer to go slower then just work out what you'd need over however many weeks to reach 300,000iu.

Some people do find that D3 can affect sleep so morning or lunchtime is probably best and you could do it either in one dose or two.

Stagger the supplements, 2 weeks will be enough to know if you are going to react, then you can add the next one, wait 2 weeks again, etc.

If you've not already bought the K2 then BetterYou do a combined 3000iu D3/K2-MK7 spray which you could use. If you don't use the combined spray then I'd start with the D3, next K2 then magnesium.
