Body temp 35.2°C on waking

Not been feeling the cold so much since I got my levo upped (150mcg) and started talking a little T3 (12.5mcg morning and 6.25mcg bedtime).

Have been working on other vitamin levels too.

Tried hi strength probiotic (Progurt) off a friend and had no reaction from it he suggested something wrong probably bad bacteria too high and suggested checking my waking temperature.

So average for the week was 35.25°C, taken orally with digital and mercury thermometer. Didn't realize that wasn't so good until I googled 😋. Checked at 3pm and was only up to 35.8°C after eating and doing physical work.

Friend has suggested upping my good salt intake and maybe supplement a small amount of nascent iodine.

How have others successfully upped their body temp?

I am not sure iodine would be a good thing if we are already taking thyroid hormones. Sometimes our body temp doesn't come back to normal but we do feel warmer.

In 12 years on levothyroxin, and 6 weeks of taking T3, no increase in basal body temperature...so assume it will never get it higher. Unless the weather is 22 plus C outside its socks, two layers and blanket ( inside)!

It’s getting quite embarrassing when your dressed like an Eskimo in the summer. 😎

Have you found the right level of medication yet? I'm still struggling with fatigue and other symptoms so maybe still under medicated. I was hoping that when medicated properly things would be normal

I don't think so, but waiting to get new bloods in c.3 weeks time. I also have a fibromyalgia diagnosis, which I think is related to undermedicated thyroid, and it might take some time for T3 receptors to wake up and do their thing! Up north it goes back to rather cool ie cold for me... and after 6 weeks of warm sun, I feel I went one step back when had been on two steps forward with T3.

Going through the fibromyalgia diagnosis with my wife at the moment, she has been under medicated for years.

It's a slow road, I had hoped T3 would be the magic answer. It would appear that it can take a long time to reverse the lack of medication supplied by GP's

Had the same issue on low basal temps and I have correlated to low rest BPM. My personal conclusion was that it was related to poor substitution of thyroid hormones (I am after TT) and poor adrenal function (slightly increased ACTH). I used to barely hit 35.8 C and only on good days....

That was the moment when I have completely forgot about TSH driven substitution and personally guided the T4+T3 combo for optimum FT3 and FT4 and I am currently doing well and I am consistently seeing basal temps over 36 C and normal rest bpm, though sometimes fluctuating.

Thanks, good to hear you're doing well. Will continue trying to get the combo right, hoping fixing gut issues will help with absorption.

Do you have Hashimoto's also called autoimmune thyroid disease diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies?

If you do, are you on strictly gluten free diet? If not you probably need to try it

According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)

Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal and slowly lower TPO antibodies

Ideally ask GP for coeliac blood test first

Essential to have very good levels of vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

See your vitamin D in past was far too low. Have you had this retested

Hi SlowDragon, thanks for the links. Wrote you a reply last night and it disappeared when I clicked reply.

Don't think I've ever been tested for TPO antibodies in 10 years I've been on Levo. My results have never fluctuated like Hashi flares.

If i do have gluten allergy it doesn't seem obvious

Been tested for coeliac and h-pylori both negative.

Have been taking Vit D + K2 5000 for a few months would need to ask doctor to retest. The Endo seems un interested other than in my suppressed TSH (when he knows I'm on T4 T3 combo. He increased my vit D to 1600ug a day after the GP left me on an 800ug and not at the bottom of normal range.

I take 5mcg of folic acid and a b complex supplement and self inject 1000ug B12 once a week.

I'm on 150 mcg T4 with 12.5mcg T3 morning and 6.25mcg T3 before bed.

Long time since I had ferritin tested, but my other iron results are high in range.

I have been able to loose some weight since taking T3 and on the whole I don't feel the cold as much as I used too. But still struggling with fatigue and bowel issues mainly and think I have absorption issues, have been trying some cider vinegar with meals.

Hi Slowdragon, I found an old Thyroid peroxidase antibody level test from 2013 level was 99 iu/ml with no reference range.

My serum TSH at that time was 10.450 mU/L (0.300 - 5.000) T4 15.5 pmol/L (11.0 - 23.0) can't remember what dose of Levo I was on.

Serum Folate 7.4 ug/L (> 5.4) Aug 2017.

Serum ferritin 277 ug/L (16 - 323) in 2015, 314 ug/L in 2012 and 280 ug/L in 2010

You don't need to have any gut symptoms at all. (I speak from personal experience- see my profile)

I would get full private testing of thyroid and vitamins if I were you

Magnesium supplements can help with constipation

B complex should have folate in, not folic acid.

I may give gluten free a try. Which magnesium do you take?

I'm considering taking my evening T3 late afternoon as sometimes early evening I feel like some has drained my battery and it's hard work to get off the couch.

Calm vitality magnesium powder is cheap and easy to use. Widely available
