New member - feeling lost and not knowing which way to go! GP not helpful and ?to go private

Hi I’m wondering if the wonderful people here can help. I have a history (2011) of post pregnancy thyroiditis which rectified itself. In the last 15 months I’ve been having increasing hypothyroid symptoms. Problem is my blood tests (TSH, T4 and T3) all come back within range so the GP is not helpful. He did test my antibodies (which are positive) but has said that until my other levels change there is nothing they can do. I asked to be referred to an Endo but he won’t. I’ve paid for private tests ( results below) and am lost thinking of my next step. Any advice much appreciated!

TSH 1.72 (0.27-4.2), T4 16.5 (12-22), FT3 4.98 (3.1-6.8), rT3 24* (10-24), rT3 ratio 13.51*(15.01-75), thyroglobulin anti 687* (0-115), peroxidase anti 42.8* (0-34).

Thanks

Well your antibodies are definitely raised and going gluten free should help you, it did me. Have you got any results for Vit D B12, folate, iron and ferritin? They are often poor when you have Hashimotos as it seriously affects the gut, but don't expect Gp or endo to understand that. These need to be optimal so that your thyroid hormones can work effectively.

Your thyroid results aren't too bad, but I would feel terrible with TSH of 1.7 when on my meds. T4 and T3 could also do to be higher.

Try diet and other blood tests/supplements firs,t give it at least 3 months.

Medichecks have finger prick blood test offers on a Thursday, get their 11 test and then retest in 3 months after GF and any necessary supplements. Seaside Susie on here is very good with advice for supplements

Thank you! I’ve had problems with my vit D and calcium which the GP was happy to treat. Not had other levels checked, will do that and try gluten free. Would you say that I have Hashimoto even though TSH, T4 and T3 are all still ok?

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

It's the thyroglobulin antibodies in your test results which show you have Hashis. Eventually your thyroid will stop working.

I bet the doc was only giving you a low dose of Vit D (800 I.U) I take between 2000-4000 units to keep my level over 100 and it is important to take Vit K with it. See Seaside Susie.
