Is it possible that there’s a moment when, having started NDT, TSH has come down a bit, T3 has hardly moved at all...........so weight starts to go up? Even more?

Are you still only on 1 grain a day? Because if so, you’re almost certainly undermedicated.

I’ve been on 2 grains per day for three weeks.

It has probably taken many, many months for the thyroid gland to gradually not produce sufficient hormones. Therefore it can take a while to build up again. I shall give you a list of clinical symptoms and you can tick off the ones that are relieved and you probably still have quite a few to be resolved.

Thank you, Shaws, it’s good to look at that again. There are one or two which have lessened, but on the whole, no, almost everything is still a problem and I’m impatient! I’m glad that I found this forum which lead to some great advice and support, which lead to me finding someone who would prescribe. I’ll gratefully stick with it!

Do you take one daily dose or split it.

I started as prescribed, splitting it, but I’m afraid to say that having had a Eustachian tube problem, I was advised to take some sudafed, and it was impossible to split the dose and take more than 1 or 2 doses of sudafed, and supplements, and eat and work, so I just started taking it all when I woke up at around 5 or 6, go back to bed for an hour and then get up for work. I don’t feel any real difference, my pulse and temperature still fairly low, no spikes when the dose increased 3 weeks ago, no spikes just after I’ve taken it all in one go.

I just feel so despondent when I see my weight is going up, and I know that you always say not to diet because it affects the take up of T3, but I really didn’t expect my weight to increase!

Thank you for your time, I think I know the answer...patience!

I’ve just read your post about hormones, and a friend (I’m grateful to this forum for meeting her) has been gently reminding me to address hormone things. My GP has been suggesting hormone replacement (rather than consider my thyroid) but I resist the idea because I fear endometrial repercussions. I’m going to try talking about transdermal treatment and possibly testosterone with GP.

That’s a great post, Shaws!

thank you jazzw, I realise that I am impatient and the scales are driving me mad! I’ll stay off them and ask my endo for an increase in the next few weeks 🙂
