Thyroid and vitamin results are back

My thyroid seems to be normal, doesn't it?

However, my folate is always low. I supplement twice daily with a liquid iron, B12 and folic acid formula and it's still low. Why?

My serum B12 was also low in the past - 180 and then 330... no higher, even with supplements.

I'm so exhausted, slow and weak... with brain fog, poor memory, can't find words, my libido has disappeared... I'm oversensitive to light, heat, cold. I sweat excessively. My voice is unreliable. I get random and sudden sugar crashes whether I've eaten or not. I'm itchy, mainly upper body/face/scalp. I'm 24 and male.

I'm having an SST as my morning cortisol was low but I don't know what else to do... pituitary function test? Hormone panel?

Recent coeliac finger prick test was normal as was my blood test years ago.

Both B12 and folate are low as you say, despite supplementing

Some of your symptoms could be due to this

Perhaps you should test MMA and homocysteine

Once you have been tested try higher level of supplement. B12 sublingual lozenges or B12 spray daily, plus a good quality vitamin B complex with folate in, rather than folic acid.

Not everyone can process folic acid

Ferritin could be higher too. Could you try to eat liver once a week, this c an help improve ferritin

Just testing negative for coeliac doesn't rule out gluten intolerance

Would suggest you try at least 3-6 months on absolutely strictly gluten free diet. You might be amazed

You need to test vitamin D too

I had a full Pernicious Anaemia test done a while back and it was all normal, just B12 itself on the lower side.

My Vitamin D was tested recently and was high in range and I'm still taking 1000iu supplements daily so opted not to get it done this time. It was low in the past and I fixed it and it didn't change anything then either.

After seeing these results I bought methylfolate and methylcobalamin and will keep taking my liquid iron, B12 and folic acid too... Will also look into a diet that seems achievable!

Thank you!

Some people cannot convert folic acid to folate and it actually prevents them from doing so and absorbing it, Try methylfolate instead (also B12 injections or sublingual methylcobalamin for B12)
