Taking unprescribed NDT abroad

Hi everyone, I'm off to Tenerife on Friday and I'm just wondering whether I need a doctor's note to confirm my need for thyroid meds as I don't get my NDT on prescription? Also do I take it in original container? I can only find clear rules online for liquid medication.

Thanks in advance

Hi. No. It's fine. I went to Costa Adeje in Tenerife at Easter. I took mine through security. They're not bothered. Have a great time, & make sure you go to Siam park! It's fantastic!

Thank you, I'll have a look at that 😉

As they are tablets they should be fine. Perhaps put enough for holiday in suitcase and enough in hand luggage. (Just to be on safe side)

Have a great time. ☀️

I recommend the trip to Masca (but only if you are being driven) Astonishing steep and winding mountain roads!

Tenerife Dragons blood liqueur is delicious too

As a general point, the best thing to do is check the website of the country's embassy. Read their advice. Look at it both as a medicine and as an animal product. For some countries, the simple fact of it being a pork product could be an issue.

If you have a pot of 100 tablets, and need only 20 for your holiday, it might be best to decant 80 into another secure container at home and take the original pot, now containing just 20, with you.

Within the EU you are unlikely to have a problem - even though desiccated thyroid is actually illegal in France. If you have to go through customs checks, best to have whatever you can manage that clearly identifies the product and, if you have one, your prescription (even a photocopy might help).

Thanks I'll have a look at that. I have checked airport websites but haven't got a definitive answer x

The airports have little reason to care - so long as not a security risk and not causing any of the obvious effects of drug abuse!

I’m currently in Valencia & cane through with my Nature Throid no problems- good advice on the decanting - I have some in make up bag always - as I take 3 times a day - I always have a small bottle in any bag I take - boring but essential- I also have a small bottle in my dog walking coat at home incase I go for Long walk 🐕
