Hi,
Does anyone get indigestion symptoms? If so what do you find works to alleviate it.
I read that antacids are not the best solution
I fear that this is a byproduct of a slow metabolism and hence digestion

The answer to your question is a yes. Slow thyroid, slow metabolism, and also slow digestion. Hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's cause low stomach acid; so taking antacids will most certainly make things worse and will also increase the guts' bad bacteria.
Optimising your T3, adding betaine pepsin, digestive enzymes, Thiamine (helps with carbs metabolism) and giving up gluten will make a difference. For some giving up dairy, too.
Yes it's likely low stomach acid
I see you are only recently diagnosed, presumably only on 50mcg starter dose
Gut should improve as dose slowly increases

If you have high thyroid antibodies then look at gluten free diet too
Hi SlowDragon,
I was actually given a dose of 100mcg!
So expected a quicker positive reaction
Thanks for the info.
I will try your suggestions
It takes minimum of 6 weeks, actually more like 12 weeks for full effect of each dose change to settle.
Important to monitor vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12. Very often too low. Especially if you have Hashimoto's (high antibodies)

I started juicing celery in the mornings about 30 minutes before I eat and all my stomach issues are gone. I had issues with digestive enzymes, but this has worked amazingly!
I suffered chronic indigestion and reflux before going on keto diet. In doing this I also inadvertently became gf and sugar free. Can’t tell which one did it but I suffer no more. 😄
100 mcg is a high starting dose! When I started out many years ago it used to be 25 and more recently it's been 25 if elderly or have a heart problem and 50 otherwise so you may find 100 a bit high for you. If any probs then ask for advice and possibly drop down to 75. Increases/decreases are usually done in 25's. We usually start low to get our bodies used to it so I just wanted you to be aware of normal practises in case you have problems. I hope your doctor has explained how to take it-on an empty stomach with a full glass of water and nothing but water for the next hour. Food can interfere with absorption. If you look on the Thyroid Uk sure there is loads of helpful information. I also hope he has told you to return in 6 weeks for retest and to see if you need an increase. If this is the case then you need another test in 6 weeks etc until you are on the best dose for you.
If you need to know about your results then please post for help but remember to include the ranges. Ranges differ from lab to lab so without them we should just be guessing.
Hi Thanks for your reply,
Yes my box says 100 micrograms.
It appears to be doing the job of reducing my TSH but my other symptoms are not abating.
Perhaps I have to be more patient.
Here are my first blood test results from which I was prescribed:
TSH 9.68 (0.3-3.5)
FT4 10 (8-21)
TPO 183.6 (0-34)
B12 277 (130-1000)
Ferritin 121 (23-300)
Vit D 65.5 (50-200)
