Is bladder incontinence a hypo symptom?

As per usual, trying to sort the wheat from the chaff.

I have a chronic cough, post nasal drip, and a lot of sneezing, all of which sometimes ease a little, on occasion, but never go away. Medication is pretty optimal atm, although still working on nutrients. I realise that all of these symptoms may, or may not be hypo symptoms (my thoughts on all of that are another story), but the other thing that i have thinking of as a 'result' of, rather than a symptom is stress incontinence. Its getting ridiculous (shares in various incontinence pads will be going up, with my use), and its really something i really dont want to put up with. So is it a result, or a symptom?

Thoughts please! (and yes, always working on pelvic floor muscles)

Pelvis means bowl or basin so try to visualise the muscles of the pelvis as if you were lining a pudding basin with something - up and down as well as around ! The yoga pose - the Bridge - if carefully and slowly executed may help as an all around lower body strengthening pose !

When the coughing stops I am sure your muscles will heal. I coughed night and day for over three weeks recently and yes there was some stress incontinence. Now fine !

I think any hypo link would again be linked to muscles ..

Ive been coughing for well over a year!

I once read a paper linking low B12 to a persistent cough. Am guessing your level is good ..

Had Active tested a few weeks ago. 60 thingamybobbys. Take Supr B Complex

Active B12: 60 thingamybobbys is on the low side. Below 70 suggests testing for B12 deficiency. Over 100 would be good. Medichecks actual range (which I think might show on the bar graph) is 37.5-188

I knew it was lowish which is why I've been taking the Super B Complex (which does help a lot with aches, pains & numbness). I thought testing for deficiency is what the Dr did in the past, but as I type this, I remember that NHS do a different test. Should i ask about PA?

16/09/19 - Serum B12 – 456ng/L (197-771)

27/01/20 -Active B12 - 59.5 pmol/L (grtr than 37.5)

B12 deficiency is all about symptoms, not numbers.

If you have any signs/symptoms of B12 deficiency I would ask for testing. Check here:

b12deficiency.info/signs-an...

If you do have any then list them to discuss with your GP and ask for testing for B12 deficiency and Pernicious Anaemia. Do not take any B12 supplements or folic acid/folate/B Complex supplements before further testing of B12 as this will mask signs of B12 deficiency and skew results.

If you don't then just supplement.

i tried talking to the Dr about B12. Got nowhere.

Not surprised, they only see that the number is within range and that satisfies them.

Do you have any signs/symptoms of B12 deficiency?

Wetsuiter profile image
Wetsuiter in reply toSeasideSusie

i believe so. (all the ones that might be hypo symptoms too!)

Also the v fact that I didnt 'need' B12/folate, but that when I started to take Super B Complex, i got an improvement in some symptoms, makes me feel there must be something in it

Could the problem be a legacy of pregnancy and childbirth?

No thats one thing we can rule out 😁

Have you tried taking an antihistamine? When I had bladder issues I tried this and it was the only time I ever got to sleep right through without toilet visits lol.since getting on top of my vaginal atrophy I ve been fine ,no more fake utis.and no more dribble bladder.I couldn’t tolerate hrt so now I just use “YES” oil based not the lubricant make sure it’s the oil base if you ever decide to try it,it’s much better heals the tissues inside and out so quickly I’m down to snag a little bit alternate days.i used to have a shocking time with bladder symtoms so I hope either of these suggestions help you good luck.x

Hi Thrones, please could you tell me more about what YES is and where it's available?

in reply tothyr01d

Hi thyr01d no problem.the website is yesyesyes.org and they’re very helpful why not email them first and ask for some samples to try? I definately found the yes oil based was so thick and generous it healed me so quickly and I’m talking a couple of days on outer labia and I felt calmer internally.you can either buy the ampoules or the tubes have a browse and best of luck.x

Many thanks Thrones, I'll have a look. x

in reply tothyr01d

sorry also depending how friendly your gp is you can also get this on prescription, the yes org will give you the relevant number your gp needs for prescription.x

That’s great Scrumbler I’m pleased for you I know a lot of ladies who’ve had success with vagifem etc, unfortunately it wasnt for me so after initially trying it I opted for the yes product, the other one burns me like mad so that’s why I recommended the oil based one or even good old organic coconut oil which was a great favourite of mines,if you put the jar in the fridge it solidifies so you can mould pessaries from it and pop inside for thrush it really does help as it’s antifungal. X

interesting replies. I'm not sure they apply to me, but as it happens, I have the dreaded trip to the Dr tomorrow. Maybe I can use this to distract her from my low TSH...

Funny you should say that about coconut oil, I was having trouble with something that felt like cystitis all the time but never seemed to get as bad as, so I did some research and discovered colloidal silver could be used for it.

Amazon has a pot in cream form, silver in coconut oil. I tried it and it started to work only after a couple of applications. I even told the woman doctor about it, and she was interested.

Low B12/PA was the cause of my own problem, but cobalamin shots remedied that.

Now, the problem has re-emerged, for which I blame menopause. I decided years ago I wouldn't bother with HRT, but I've a number of persistent problems I'm sure are due to post-meno hormones being rock-bottom, rather than optimal.

Hi wetsuiter

Just been reading your posts I have the same problem it's been ongoing since 2006 frequent trips to the loo day and night loads of utis passing blood ect after gp took no notice of my symptom I was rushed to hospital with a rather nasty uti and kidney infection. after recovery they did tests and came up with kidney stones to which they couldn't find an actual stone then they said I have an irratated bladder??? Also I cannot hold a full bladder.. I was given a table to take at night which one side affect was it makes you thirsty... So as you can imagine this didn't work.. I've had this for so long now I just live with it😩 I also have nasal leekage on my right nostril it only leaks when I'm up doing things and when I bend over I'm currently due to see my ENT consultant in April so far I've had a sinus scan which was OK... But I had a nasty fall due to my thyroid condition hit my head on my banister at home had 2 black eyes for weeks I did read sometimes leakage from one nostril could be cranial leekage I do have really bad thumping headaches but been putting it down to the levo not getting on with this medication unfortunately also my kidney test came bk as outa wack I'm blaming the levo even tho I do have bladder/kidney problems I've never had a test that says AKD... Only since starting the levo as this occurred.

not good is it?

Dr visit a complete waste of time. Not distracted from TSh, she reduced my dose to 125mcg levo, cos Im gonna drop dead from AF (despite my RHT of 54) Said my B12 is perfect, listened to my complaints (and my suggestion that i stay on 150 but she prescribes 100 and 2 x 25s ) but had no suggestions, and said 'thyroids a pain isnt it' and 'we'll all be better in the spring'.

I'm off for a sulk now.

thyr01d profile image
thyr01d in reply toWetsuiter

Hi Wetsuiter, I hope you are enjoying your sulk! Seriously though these GPs can be really upsetting. I get around the problem of the GP not being willing to prescribe high enough doses by getting my endocrinologist to write to the GP. Could you get a referral and have the same situation? Many endos seem very happy to take the responsibility.

Wetsuiter profile image
Wetsuiter in reply tothyr01d

Cant get a referral cos I am 'doing everything right' and 'thyroid problems are a pain'

thyr01d profile image
thyr01d in reply toWetsuiter

You have a right to a referral whether or not you are "doing everything right" and "thyroid problems are a pain". I had to work very hard to get a referral but it was worth it.

Not ruling it out altogether. Just picking my battles atm
