Fluoride free toothpaste

I’m reading Dr Peatfield’s book where he talks about damaging effect of fluoride. I wonder what good fluoride- free toothpastes are available in the UK. Any recommendations?

Hi I used Kingfisher fluoride free, from Holland and Barrett. It was fine. Then made a mistake buying fluoride free, with aloe Vera, and got very itchy mouth! It's all trial and error. Each person differs.

I did suffer full body rash, had taken levothyroxine 25 years no problem. Then got sciatica and prolapse discs, had much pain relief med prescribed whilst awaiting physio and MRI appointment. After many months, on meds, in agony, I collapsed, hospital visit, (paramedic thought I had stroke, I hadn't), consultant stopped all pain meds in an instant! Foolish, I think!

Interestingly, my dermatologist noted I was over prescribed levothroxine. Endo says possible, (and I agree), thyroid system became overwhelmed as too much Levi stayed in blood causing toxicity, due to pain relief meds.

So, after 2years, investigations, chemical testing, etc I am now significantly allergic to metals, cobalt, nickel. I take very few pain relief meds, ever, and titrating levothyroxine dose to tolerant levels. I have also now been diagnosed with sjogrens syndrome as well as autoimmune thyroid.

I'm much improved, but the rash was, in my case, telling me my system was struggling.

I did read Dr Peatfield book and indeed, became a patient of Dr Peatfield. He helped me enormously, at the time; my old GP let me down badly. I now have a new GP, an endocrinologist helping me, and much more respect for my gut instinct, regarding my health!

Good luck.

Thanks for your recommendation Supul. I’m glad you are better now and getting good help from the doctors as it is a massive achievement to find someone who really knows the bigger picture.

Surely with Sjorgrens and the risk of tooth decay we definitely need to use a fluoride toothpaste? I think I need to do some research. I have hashis, Sjorgrens/lupus and my rheumy just told me to use a high fluoride toothpaste??

I use Kingfisher fennel toothpaste-the fluoride free version, which is popular with people using homoeopathic remedies. It is available in all good wholefood & healthfood shops, including H&B.It is also free of a lot of other additives found in big name toothpastes. Its available in mint, but I love the fennel one

Hi,

I asked a similar question about 3 months ago. If you click on my profile and scroll down my posts it’s titled Toothpaste & Bottled Water. I have a list but not to hand. There were about 130 replies so that should help quite a lot. Not all were referring to FF toothpaste but I recall I had at least ten suggestions.

Also think about a water filter for your home water system. Exox

I found the trail, thank you, will read through it. I’m using ZeroWater jug as a water filter. I have always used toothpaste with fluoride and mouthwash with fluoride as my dentist told me it would cut out the decay by 40%. Then I changed the dentist and she told me that mouthwash is optional so stopped using it and to be honest my teeth remain decay free. So now it’s time to change the toothpaste 😊

If you use a jug filter it is very important to keep in the fridge. If left in daylight and ambient temps it will start encouraging bacteria, all it needs is light and warmth. No point filtering water to increase the bacteria. x

My Indian dentist suggested I use baking soda to clean my teeth and have been doing so for over a year. Then I gargle with sea salt. He also taught me about oil pulling. I try to do it everyday but sometimes skip a day or two. I use coconut oil. It definitely cleans your mouth of early morning film and helps with the plaque. It is controversial here but not harmful. If you get this far with the oil pulling it's important NOT to spit the oil down the sink when rinsing as coconut oil hardens at room temperature. You will eventually have plumbing problems you never thought possible. I use a paper towel, crumple it up and throw it in the trash.Google and read if this sound interesting. The internet explanations and directions are much better than mine would be. And I floss a lot. I have all my teeth except the two very back top ones which were pulled after age-old crowns cracked. Tried some hospital toothpaste in Jan when I didn't have my baking soda and it was so sweet I spit it out. I also use soft, child toothbrushes which was suggested when I was on coumadin (anticoagulant). Still use them as they are less harsh on my gums.

Thanks irina1975, the oil pulling sounds interesting. I get mouth ulcers occasionally, I wonder if this would be helpful.

I use Aloe Dent fluoride free, it's very nice, fresh & minty. Even my eldest child likes it.

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate makes toothpaste foam and is another nasty !

Hello Marz,

I loved my foaming gel Sensodyne Senifoam. It took a while to part with it. Similar to giving up smoking! I’m trying Aloe Dent at present and back to brushing twice a day as it just doesn’t feel like my teeth are as clean (told to cut down to once or I’d wear my enamel off)

Thank you for this piece of information.

Finding a dentist who understands about the dangers of fluoride is, I find, impossible. I have even shown them the relevant bits of Dr. Peatfield’s book, to no avail. I saw a new dentist last year and she told me that if I did not use fluoride my teeth would fall out - I quit the dentists. As I am over 60 and still have my teeth I thought that the remark was fatuous.

I am a water engineer and a TT. Imagine my horror when both governments have at times decided to start adding fluoride to drinking/utility water, it is not naturally occurring fluoride but a by product of chemical engineering (toxic waste) yes some clever company realised instead of paying to safely dump the waste they decided to tout it to water companies as good for your teeth! Myself and others fought hard in europe and in uk to stop it being pushed through. The pro campaign was 'parents who are too lazy to teach children to brush their teeth and adding fluoride would stop them getting cavities but by mass medicating the country. We were able to stop it in most areas by threatening court and prosecution. Interesting that Kent, Birmingham and areas of hampshire who went ahead with fluoride dosing had a massive spike in hypothyroid cases.

There have been a few cases of over treatment resulting in brown speckled teeth and various other illness. If your water board uses fluoride you should be complaining and do not use it for cooking or drinking. Also boiling it concentrates it plus any other metals/contaminants. The chlorine used to clean it is not much better for you. You can remove the chlorine with a simple carbon filter with separate faucet at sink for drinking and cooking but removing the fluoride you need a reverse osmosis unit that removes 95% of all contaminants including hormones in the water.

Half the population is on birth control, HRT and other hormones all excess is removed in urine and yes you guessed it IN OUR WATER thyroid problems do not handle hormone disruptors, there are high levels of hormones in our water. Men are not getting moobs and low fertility from being over weight it is a hormonal issue. Also all those mega doses of vitamins people have been taking for years, some are water soluble and yes wee'd out daily into our water, antidepressants are measurable in our water, that paint brush you cleaned in turps in your kitchen sink, that paint and turps is now in your water IF YOU WOULDNT DRINK IT, DONT PUT IT DOWN THE SINK, BATH, TOILET etc all water that gets flushed is sieved for lumps, then filtered through sand and reed beds, into streams (our fish are affected by hormones) into reservoirs, chlorinated and then back through your drinking water tap within 3-6 months. There is no more water, we do not manufacture water, take care of it xxx sorry rant over

By the way I use kingfisher toothpaste xx

I use Sarakan to whiten & nice fresh Taste & Aloe Vera one as ( I get lichen planus ) flare ups - I believe from many years on Levothyroxine? As a side effect so I’ve read - sometimes my lower lip feels almost sunburnt - so I’m really careful with an AIP diet & the toothpastes -

I use Kingfisher it's a little more expensive but comes in 100ml size not 75ml so is good value. If you go online you can buy 3 quite cheaply.

I loathed the taste of Euthymol as a kid - apparently, my mother eventually decided that my brothers and I skipping using it was worse than the risk of the flouride, so the family went back to Colgate :)
