Help with latest vitamin D results

Had a full thyroid check in November with Medichecks and VD was 60.

Been supplementing with 5000 daily since then, plus Vitamin K2 pearls.

Had a retest on the VD last week and level now 172 nmol/L (no range given)

Question is where do I go from here?

Do I reduce the CVD to a daily dose and if so of what?

Can I continue to use up the remaining 5000 capsules say every one every 5 days, but not sure if it works like that?

Do I keep taking the Vitamin K2 pearls or stop them now?

Any help gratefully recieved

The Vit D Council recommends a level of 100-150nmol/L. You are slightly over but nowhere near toxicity level.

What you should do now is reduce to a maintenance dose. I would try 5000iu alternate days for now, that is halving your dose. Retest after 3 months and see where your level lies then. It will then be summer and you should be able to make some D3 naturally from the sun but you may still need a maintenance dose in the summer, some of us do.

Also, retest in November as we can no longer benefit from the sun during the winter months and you may need to increase your dose from November to April.

You continue with the K2-MK7 whilst taking D3.

Magnesium is another important cofactor of D3 which you should also be taking.

Thanks for your reply, very helpful.

I am already taking the magnesium citrate, 2 x 300mg a day.

I have my Vit D checked every year. less than 15 severe deficiency, 15-30 deficie3ncy, 30.1 - 50 insufficiency, greater than 50 is adequate. But you have to be careful on over-dosing too with Vit D as it can prove dangerous hence to get it checked yearly. My report says levels above 220 nmol/l are considered high and increase risk of vitamin D toxicity. Now you've got levels raised, a maintenance dosage Im told is 400 iu and you can stop during the summer as many do and just take during the winter months. My nutritionist advised re Vit K2 which most people do not realise the importance of taking along with vit D. Another nutritionist suggested taking k2 for a short time and then leaving off and then starting again. Also a doctor on youtube said it doesn't matter if say you take a few days in one go so I would personally use your 5000 capsules up but not every day say perhaps every few days until used up then go on the maintenance dose. You can always check with a Pharmacist who are very good for advice and have the up to date info unlike doctors!!
