Advice for my mum please. Could she have hashimotos like me?

I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid 20 years ago by Dr Skinner after years of being unwell and 'normal' thyroid results. When I was pregnant I was finally diagnosed with hashimotos by

NHS .

My mum had had similar symptoms for past few years but gp won't consider underactive thyroid as her results are normal.

These are her results:

TSH 1.3, FT4 17.4, FREE T3 3.74, ANTIBODIES 79

Does anyone have any advice? I just want her to feel well again

I'm afraid we need the ranges for those results. Results without ranges are meaningless.

Here are the results including the ranges: antibodies 79 (0 - 30) FT3 3.74 (3.6 - 6.5) FT4 15.1 (9 - 19.1) TSH 1.4 (0.35 - 4.94)

As you can see they are all within range with the exception of antibodies.

But this was always the same with me and I have Hashimotos

Would be grateful for any advice

So, she has Hashi's, that's clear - and not surprising if you have it. And, although her TSH is good, her FT3 is right at the bottom of the range, and that is too low. And, it's low T3 that causes symptoms.

All I can suggest is she try a 100% gluten-free diet, to try and lower the antibodies. And, taking selenium, to try and improve her conversion - which isn't too good at the moment. Trying to get a doctor to diagnose on those results will be very difficult, they're all far to hung up on the TSH. But, continue to test regularly, because the TSH is probably going to go up at some point - or her FT3 come down even further. :)

Thank you. Really appreciate your advice. Do you think it's worth seeing one of the doctors on the thyroid UK list?

I'm sorry, I don't know anything about them. But I rather think not. Most of them tow the party line. Try writing a new post asking for PMs recommending good endos. :)
