Hi,
Do any of your Gp's do a T3 blood test?
My GP refused to test my levels and was wondering if anyone has got a test on the GP or same situation as me?
Hi,

Mine gets tested as my TSH is always suppressed and my surgery's lab will test FT3 when TSH is suppressed. If it wasn't suppressed FT3 wouldn't be tested. It's generally the lab who makes the decision on testing FT3.
This is why many members do private testing when they want FT3 included.
My GP tests tsh, ft3 and ft4. He rights that I take liothyronine(which I do) on the request form to make sure the labs do it x
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies. Plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12.
Essential to test thyroid antibodies, FT3 and FT4, plus vitamins
If you are taking T3 they should test FT3, but often don't
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often Aldo's refuses to test antibodies

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.
All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting.
If on Levothyroxine, don't take in the 24 hours prior to test, and if on T3 don't take in 12 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).
About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's. Low vitamins are especially common with Hashimoto's. Food intolerances too, especially gluten. So it's important to get tested.
My GP or rather the lab routinely tests T3 every time.
In my area only hospital consultants can request ft3 blood tests. If gps put it on the form it comes back undone with a comment about hospital consultant request only!
My GP told me T3 wasn’t important and she wouldn’t get it tested. I have never been back to see that one. Mind you the rest aren’t much better, pretty sure the thyroid lecture must have been scheduled late on a Friday afternoon.
