I had a scan on my thyroid yesterday- no results as yet but the sonographer said it showed what was expected- I had an inflamed thyroid with nodules present. I can feel and see that my thyroid is enlarged on my left side especially- it’s slightly painful and I can feel when I swallow. I just want to know what happens now? When I get my results, under what circumstances would I expect there to be more investigation (i.e. FNA)? Under what circumstances should I be worried? I’m currently on 50mcg Levo as well as vit D and folate for deficiencies. Thanks in advance.

I have had 2 scans done so far-i have hashis and graves-i have several well defined nodules and chronic damage to the thyroid-i believe that if your nodules are no bigger than 1cm they will not do a biopsy or remove them, if they are causing swallowing problems and breathing difficulty then they will remove-this was my concern as i was getting breathing difficulty and could feel the nodules, so i had a 2nd scan done by a consultant thyroid radiographer who was more experienced-he showed me on screen that there was nothing pressing on my windpipe or esphaghous- but he did say that the thyroid when under attack from a hashi flare can swell but it will go back down-i think if they are large enough they will remove otherwise they will leave them-unless they are causing problems!! Even though mine are tiny i can still feel them on my left side and i knew exactly where they were before the scan picked them up. Good luck.xx
More experienced people will be along shortly-also get a copy of your scan results to help you understand it better-i also my gp did not understand the results but your endo maybe some help with assisting you but most timrs nodulrs are very common with thyroid disease and they dont get excited about small ones. Xx
Bloods will need retesting 6-8 weeks after each dose increase. TSH should be around one and FT4 towards top of range and FT3 at least half way in range
Have you asked GP for coeliac blood test, before starting strictly gluten free diet
Thank you. Yes, have found gps I have seen to be pretty clueless, and Endo’s pretty hit and miss- one stopped my meds and another subsequently restarted them stating they never should have been stopped.🙄 I can definitely ‘feel’ the nodules but have no idea how big they are or how many. Suppose I’ll find out more when I get results. x
Same boat 6 nodules if they are no. cancerous seen by biopsy i will do laser ablation thyroid for nodules
I too have an enlarger thyroid, but it doesn't seem to stay the same. Some days it looks and feels larger than others.
Saw an Endocrinologist and GP, totally disinterested in doing anything. They just say blood tests are normal and lots of people have enlarged thyroid. If it was my dog I'd get far more information from a vet but drs around here don't seem interested in patients.
☹️ It’s rubbish isn’t it? I thought the endos would know more but when I talked to him about possible symptoms his response was ‘well they might be related or they might not be.’ Well, that’s helpful. 😂
