Did a blood donation ,do one yearly ,maybe two sometimes for last few years .That night I fainted ,while going to the loo.Decided to go to doc ,she did bloods cbc etc .

Haemaglobin 14 .2,mcv ,etc etc all normal ,serum ferritn 10..transferrin tibc ok.

What to make of this ,will my hb etc fall now because the iron stores are low?Should I take iron supplementss ?I would value opinions,Im a newbie!

This is a thyroid forum.

floboat , it could simply have been dehydration, or a complete coincidence - that you had a virus at the time of the blood donation.

That said, do you know what’s causing your stomach problems? Could be coeliac disease - have you been tested? When you take medications like Nexium, your gut struggles more to absorb nutrients, so you may be low in Vit B12 as well as in ferritin. It would be best to ask your doctor if you should take iron tablets.

Finally - this is after all a Thyroid forum! :) - it could be that hypothyroidism is causing your stomach issues. An underactive thyroid slows everything down, including how well your gut works. So it might be worth asking for more tests if you have any more fainting episodes.

"Micturition syncope" is what they called my (thankfully single) occurrence of this. They don't really know what causes it, but things like alcohol, hunger & fatigue may be involved.
