Coeliac test with gluten diet for Hashimotos person? Help

My Gp has today mentioned repeating a Coeliac test as he thinks I might have this. However I am gluten free and this test requires you to be on a full gluten diet which will make me very unwell as I also have Hashimotos which benefits from a gluten free diet.

Any advice? :(

Irrelevant now you’re actually gluten free so why put yourself through it especially as it will take about six months to get it out of your system again.

Perks for being registered coeliac? I don’t believe you get free bread etc on prescription any more.

My advice - don’t bother. Think of your health!

Thanks Helena, that is very true I was thinking the same thing. What does it actually gain you by having the Coeliac status on your health records, I can stay away from Gluten myself! I think if I ate Gluten for a month it would make me bed bound!!

If your already strictly gluten free there’s no point being tested for coeliac

Only 5% with Hashimoto’s are coeliac but over 80% are gluten intolerant or leaky gut

Suggest you print out some info on that for GP

See Thyroid Pharmacist, Amy Myers, Chris Kresser and Dr K news

Presumably you still struggle with low vitamins despite supplements

Yes that's true, I don't think I will be going ahead with the test as eating gluten would make me so ill.

I am struggling to get my iron levels up and doctor is refusing to treat my low B12 also, it's a constant battle!

What about vitamin D levels?

How much Levothyroxine are you on? Has endo offered T3?

I need to get a test for vitamin D as haven't had it tested in awhile but I take the 3000iu spray from Holland and Barratt twice a day. I am on 62.5 mg of T4 and 1.25 a quarter of 5mg T3 at the moment. I need to start upping T3 to a half of the 5mg pill I struggled to tolerate higher doses of T3, I wanted to get my iron levels up before adding more T3 as I feel very weak and hellish at the moment :(

My thyroid results

T4 16 ranges (9-21)

T3 1.5 ranges (0.9-2.4)

TSH 1.3 ranges (0.2-4.5)

Not what you're looking for?
