Me

I’ve put in a considerable amount of weight and I’m in 125. MVP of levo, earlier on my endo asked me to stop taking natural thyroid saying it’s not a sensible option but I’ve put in almost a stone.. can anyone please help to suggest a sensible t4 and T3 combined treatment, as in how much and times of day for T 2 to be taken.

Much obliged and extremely thank ful xx

Hi crimple

Thank you for replying

Results are

TSH <0.01 (0.27-4.20)

T4 23.9 (12.0-22.00)

T3 5.8. (3.1-6.8)

Symptoms included are I’m 10.5 stone and just had my endo appointment where dr confirmed I’ve put in weight I’m such a short time. I’m very confused and that I’m retaining water, ankles are painful and arms have gotten bigger along with extremely wobbly thoughts, face is so large at the moment too, yet he said I’m on the the right much for me..

I’d really appreciate you’re help to improve health..

wishing you well

Well looking at those results, in my humble opinion something else is going on as you appear to be on sufficient medication. I am not a medical expert but your T4 and T3 and Tsh are where you would want them to be! Do you have antibodies? What are you other results like, B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate.

Essential to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Do you have Hashimoto's also called autoimmune thyroid disease diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

Hi slowDragon

Thanks for your reply. I’ve had all the above tested and the endo has passed them as normal and antibodies have come down drastically too.. I do have Hashimoto thyroiditis.

Always get actual results and ranges on all tests.

Ranges are wide, just being in range is sometimes/often not adequate when we have thyroid issue. We need optimal, not just in range

Vitamin D above 80nmol (around 100nmol ideally)

Ferritin half way in range

B12 definitely above 500 and nearer top of range

Folate half way in range

Hashimoto's affects the gut and leads to low stomach acid and then low vitamin levels

Low vitamin levels can affect Thyroid hormone working

Poor gut function can lead leaky gut (literally holes in gut wall) this can cause food intolerances. Most common by far is gluten

According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)

But don't be surprised that GP or endo never mention gut, gluten or low vitamins. Hashimoto's is very poorly understood

Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal and slowly lower TPO antibodies

Ideally ask GP for coeliac blood test first

Thank you slowDragon

Thank you so much for your reply. I’ll look in to reading the links you kindly sent. I try and stick to a gluten free diet (try), I rarely eat processed I.e. pizza, breads, pasta’s and the rest and try to stick with proteins and greens.

Thanks again for your reply, much appreciated.
