Some GPs listen

I spoke to a GP today, who, quite refreshingly, admitted what he did not know, listened to what I had to say, looked up the issue (my belief i have a conversion and RT3 problem) and went out of his way to arrange a private RT3 test for me because they don't test rt3 on the nhs, along with organising a full thyroid panel on the NHS. I still don't think I'll get prescribed t3 or armour / NDT, but at least having a GP who will listen instead of just saying "take more Levo" or "your TSH is fine" made me feel a whole lot better.

It is nice to be heard and a good one will always admit if we know more than them. I had an amazing GP a few years back but she has sadly retired. I know she would have prescribed for me as she went out of her way in other ways for her patients.

I would research cost of the reverse T3 test against Medichecks.

My usual GP is okay . He says I will listen to you because you are living with it and is fine with me taking NDT but he said he won’t prescribe as it’s unlicensed. Better than an arrogant and dismissive GP but not that much use if he won’t prescribe!

Wow! I'm jealous. I'd love to have a GP that would think outside the TSH guidelines. How wide a geographical area does he cover? He might end up being deluged with lots of new patients... ;-) That's brilliant! Best of luck :)

You probably have a conversation problem if your FT4 is high in its range but your FT3 is very low in its. If that is the case then you need VitD, B12, folate and ferritin checked. They are often very low if you aren't converting well but getting them optimal makes a huge difference so if that's the. Are you will need advice of those results and how to correct them. I've reversed a conversion problem by doing this but it can take time. If that does t get them high enough then you may need to add in a small amount of T3.

It’s nice that your GP is nice, but I feel that is setting the bar far too low. I have friends to listen to me. The job of my GP is to make me well.
