I didn't know if my B12 was affected by my thyroid ... so I took a B12 supplement - had a blood test for B12 and I'm hoping to goodness that it was high because I stupidly took B12 wen I didn't need to. I know a high B12 can mean something more serious.
You should always get a blood test to know for sure whether or not you need a supplementation on any of the following B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate.
Regarding B12, you should never supplement without a blood test, as it could mask a more serious condition than a deficiency. If B12 is very low, an intrinsic factor test must be done to exclude the patient does not have Pernicous Anaemia, another autoimmune condition and serious if untreated.
