"TSH is the most important test" "TSH should be in the middle-normal of the range" "blood tests can be messy" and "we follow science" and "we don't follow the internet"
Precious discussions between a patient and his GP and further evidence of the training of doctors by Pharma and indeed having no clue of what they are talking about.
I suppose one has to say "Words fail me" in lieu of something riper. What an unbelievable demonstration of ignorance and mental deafness. I wonder who put all that into his mind.
That is the way he was taught in medic school... and nothing seems to have changed! WHY?
When I talk to my GP, she seems to listen and when I tell her certain things about values of results of tests, etc., she seems a bit lost for a while and then try to say that everything is "normal" according to the ranges, etc... but even seeing a patient in front of her who has been so ill for at least 3 years she is UNABLE (unwilling?.. saving money?) to explore further.... Sadly this is the state of medicine in the UK... We are not safe in their hands.
He was on 250 T4 and he gets 1.5 grains NDT, which by my mental calculations (so not reliable!) is around 100 T4. I wonder if the doctor is deliberately under dosing so the patient feels worse?
At least he tested his vits which my GP did not. I was then put on Folate for 3 months, as that would be fine for all time!
I listened for a while but not to the end. I will listen later but i hope the end comes when the patient just lands a punch! Complete waffle from the doc so far.
Thanks for post... sadly it only confirms whay most ofus on this forum are only too aware of: doctors lack of education and thereby understanding... What can we do to change the way doctors are taught - or in this case not... - about thyroid conditions? That is a problem that needs addressing.
However it is not just hypothyroid conditions that are misunderstood, so many other conditions are in the same boat... Ex: B12, hyperparathyroidism (incidentally not connected directly to thyroid) and many more.
Education of medics needs to move with the times and advancements in research, yet they seem to use the past well trodden ways of teaching...
