Do I have Hashi's or not.

Hi

Although my thyroid antibodies have never been over range on all the occasions I have had them tested, they do tend to be high in range on some of the tests.

As we are all aware the TSH range is too wide, so could the range for antibodies also be too wide, and I do actually have hashi's.

When I was first diagnosed hypo. February 2011

NHS test. Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies 50 range 0 - 75

May 2017 Medichecks test.

THYROGLOBULIN ANTIBODY 95.770 IU/mL 0.00 - 115.00

THYROID PEROXIDASE ANTIBODIES 32.02 IU/mL 0.00 - 34.00

November 2017 NHS test.

Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies 8 range 0 - 75

December 2017 Medichecks test.

THYROIDGLOBULIN ANTIBODIES 103 range 0 - 115

THYROID PEROXIDASE ANTIBODIES 20.8 range 0 - 34.00

I did go gluten free for ten weeks August/September, so wonder if this could account for the drop in Peroxidase AB's in November, having said that I was eating gluten again for a few weeks before the November test.

I am wondering if I should try gluten free again.

Apologise for some capitals, these results were copied and pasted.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thank you.

Lucylocks,

You've had thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin close to top of range a couple of times so you may be developing Hashimoto's. If you are then 100% gluten-free may reduce antibodies and stop progression.

Some people are sero negative and Hashimoto's is diagnosed by the condition of their thyroid gland on an ultrasound scan.

Thanks Clutter,

I may ask Doctor about a thyroid scan.

Lucylocks,

Probably won't agree to a scan unless you have a goitre or thyroid nodule. Confirmed Hashi's won't affect your treatment. If you think it may be Hashi's why not just adopt 100% gluten-free diet?

O.K.

When I did GF before, for ten weeks, I did notice my stomach was not as bloated and I lost a couple pounds in weight. If I had stayed on it longer I may have found further improvement, so I will now give it another try.

Many thanks.
