So - after lots of trouble with a very mean, unhelpful doctor.......
I saw a different doctor yesterday and he was absolutely lovely - I had no fight from him whatsoever about medication (the previous one said I just had to be ill on what I had until I saw an Endo), he was so helpful and really sounded bothered and like he wanted to help. He told me that the new formulation of TEVA brand of Levothyroxine is now lactose free so he wrote me a named brand prescription and said to try that - don't know why the other ogre couldn't do that?
Obviously just couldn't be bothered to help.
Picked it up and on my first tablet today - so far so good - no symptoms at all from it yet whereas the other brand reacted with me within 15 minutes really badly. Fingers crossed it was the lactose then....but more importantly I am now on medication again, lets see how I get on with the pain etc now! ( I have Hashimotos)
He also prescribed loading dose of Vit D for 7 weeks then 1000 iu every day after that. Also, folic acid 5mg for 2-3 months as I was deficient in these.
My coeliac bloods just came back today as negative which surprised me as I am getting really ill from all sorts of foods now so wonder just to go gluten/lactose free anyway or should I ask for a biopsy do you think as I have many symptoms of the disease?
Also - I really want to try and help myself get back to tip top health so wondered if you can give me advise on all the supplements I could take to help my body out other than vit D and folic acid as I am already on those now?
Thanks in advance for your help and advice. You are all wonderful - your advice so far on my journey has helped no end and I really appreciate it.

You didn't need a named brand prescription your pharmacist could have switched you to Teva as you are lactose-intolerant.
Digestive issues may improve now you have lactose-free Levothyroxine. Some people have Non-Coealiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) so it may be worth trialling gluten-free without bothering to get a biopsy or confirmed diagnosis.
There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Levothyroxine treatment is for the low thyroid levels it causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.
Thanks so much for the links...Im going to go for it and change my diet as its so draining feeling ill all of the time after eating. A big learning curve I'm sure but there's lots of great websites to research with lots of recipes etc. so I'm sure it will be fine.
B12 was about 242 I think and ferrtin was fine. B12 result said normal but it was the lower end of range so I was thinking to maybe try and raise it a bit?
Will get the selenium/calcium too as to be honest I just want to max out on help for my body now.
I was especially interested in your post because I have food intolerances and wondered what other meds you are taking and which brands. I hope that you do not mind my asking . Thanks
Hi there! No problem at all. I have recently developed lactose intolerance and now struggle to eat the tiniest amounts of anything with lactose in it and am also really struggling eating many different foods...bread, pasta, chocolate etc.
I have recently been diagnosed with Hasimotos and also vitamin D deficiency/low folate. I also have slightly high blood pressure (always the diastolic reading) So I currently take the following meds:
1.25mg ramipril for blood pressure
50mg levothyroxine - just started on new formulation of Teva brand as it contains no lactose and so far so good - no reaction. The last brand I was on I was so ill within 15 mins of taking the tablet and felt dreadful all day every day on it.
Am currently on loading dose of vit D
5mg folic acid
I am looking at changing my diet completely to gluten/dairy free as I am just so sick of feeling ill after eating. Its draining. Apparently lots of people with Hashimotos can develop these problems and changing the diet can really help. Its going to take some learning though I think!
