So after having various people telling me that my thyroid was swollen and after my blood tests came back normal I booked myself in for a ultrasound. Apparently my thyroid yes is large but it’s fine. I have a calcium filled nodule in my neck that needs a biopsy, no rush though he said. He didn’t tell me to get it done privately like I did the ultrascan so I’m not worried about it but I just don’t understand what a calcium filled nodule is?

Lissaok,
A calcified nodule has a higher risk of malignancy which is why you've been advised to have a FNA biopsy. Your GP can refer you to your local hospital for an ultrasound guided FNA. 95% of nodules are benign.

That is very interesting. I read somewhere that if a nodule becomes calcified then it is in it's final stages and therefore not likely to become cancerous. That was related to fibroids not on the thyroid but on or around the ovaries/uterus. I'd like get more info on this.
It's not exactly related to the thyroid but when my gallbladder was removed in 2006 it was completely full of calcium stones. Nobody bothered to explain why, I also had an ultrasound of my groin by my chiropractor this was found to be calcified too, again no explanation. It's only since joining this site that I have found the answer very very low vitamin D and eating excessive dairy lots of cheese i.e. calcium with no balance of the Vitamin D can cause this.
I don't know if my thyroid nodule contained calcium too but the nodule was 4cm in size and 1/5th was papilary cancer which was missed only 8 months before after a FNA.
OK you know best
