I have just return to the UK from Greece where I was prescribe Euthyroxin 88mcg... the pharmacist at my new doctors has tried to obtain this dosage but cannot find it in the UK...Does anyone know if we can get this dosage...it does not have to be Euthyroxin, which I am told is Levothyroxine under a different name... as my test results have come back in the "normal" range, I do not want to go to either 75 or 100 mcg.
dosages. : I have just return to the UK from... - Thyroid UK
dosages.
Hi, I think I may be over medicated, I'm on 100 thyroxine and have symptoms I never had previously.
Keep us posted if you find an alternative.🌻
Not sure if that dose is easy to get hold of - someone else might be able to help. What about trying 75 and 100 on alternative days? Or any combination that leads you to a similar dose across the week:
88 x 7 days = 616mcg per week
75mcg x 3 days plus 100mcg x 4 days = 625mcg per week
How long have you been diagnosed for?
Would be useful to get ferritin, folate, B12 and vit D tested.
Hi, I've been recently diagnosed and levelling at 100 thyroxine.
I'm going to get a medicheck test.
Then look into supplementing, eating well and continue exercising .
Fingers crossed.🤗
I have been diagnosed for over 27 years...and it was only when I was in Greece that I was tested for antibodies ...and found I had Hashimotos, but also that I had an ultra scan on my throat, and the doctor weighed me, checked my hands for shakes and my reflexes on the back of my heels ...cannot remember what this was for...he also sent me for a bone density scan...I have never had such thorough treatment in the UK..I returned to have my blood tested by a nursing assistant, and my results given to me by the pharmacist. Who, I admit has tried to get the 88 mcg I was prescribed in Greece. I have only had ferritin, folate, B13 and vit D tested in Greece... but next time I go to this surgery I will request these to be tested. To say I am disappointed is an understatement.
Yes, it's a shame. My endo here is better than most and does do all you mentioned (minus bone density) but the majority are pants lol!!
They test your reflexes as hyper or overmedicated can cause hyper reflexes and slow, dulled reflexes can indicate hypo/undermedicated. SHakes too although I have an minor essential tremor so pointless lmao!
It might be worth considering a gluten free diet as many of us have had improvements in symptoms with this can can lower antibodies.
I expect the 75/100 alternating is your only option to be honest and then make sure you get the thyroid labs retested two months later to see if levels remain stable.
Good luck
It means you take 75mcg and 100mcg on alternate days
There are two approaches to levothyroxine tablets:
First, a small number of dosages - typically 25, 50 and 100 micrograms. People combine these as needed to achieve their dose.
Second, a wide range of dosages covering most of the doses that are actually prescribed. The precise ranges vary by product but might include at least 88, 100, 112, 125, 137 and 150. Because of the greater likelihood of confusing these, most products that come in such a range of doses are pigmented.
There are advantages and disadvantages to each approach.
Colouring agents are sometimes poorly tolerated. For this reason, the 50 microgram dose is often white - unpigmented. If you need to take that, you do not have any choice of tablet size.
If you need to adjust your dose, the wide range products usually mean you have to get a new prescription for another dosage. This can be expensive and wasteful. You are unable to simply add 12.5 or 25 for a few days, or drop, depending on need.
Getting a single tablet is simpler! Multiple tablets are more flexible.
