Went got print out from surgery

Iron profile

Serum iron level 18 umol 600-35.00

Serum transferrin 2.65 gl 2.00-3.60 g/l

Serum ferritin 44 ugl

B12 and folate 900 nhs/l

Serum folate 12.6 ug/l

Have no idea what these mean

Wildgeese,

Everything looks good. Iron and transferrin levels rule out iron deficiency anaemia although ferritin is not optimal. Ferritin is optimal >70 - 100. You can raise ferritin by supplementing iron which should be taken with 1,000mg vitamin C to aid absorption and minimise constipation. Iron should be taken 4 hours away from Levothyroxine.

B12 900 is likely to be close to the high end of range so there's unlikely to be deficiency.

Folate 12.6 is unlikely to be deficient.

When you post results in future please include the lab ref ranges (the figures in brackets after results) to help members interpret.
