I had my first appointment with the endocrinologist today! I was referred about 2 and a half years ago, but until today I kept getting fobbed off with the 'members of the endocrine team' who tended not to be specialist in Thyroid issues and very similar to the GP in knowledge on this subject. The appointment went well with the Endo actually listening, and having viewed my blood test results, agreed that I do not convert T4 into T3 efficiently. Unfortunately however, due to NHS financial constraints, T3 is not available to new patients! Had I seen the endocrinologist sooner, then not only would I have been treated sooner, but no doubt, I would not now be classed as a new patient!
Anyway, on the bright side, it appears it is T3 I need and the Endo has told me to start with 10mcg of T3 and reduce my Levothyroxine from 100mcg down to 50mcg per day. Although I have to buy it myself, the hospital will monitor me. I was advised to buy Henning Thybon. I have tried to find it on the internet without any success. Does anyone know where I can buy it from a trusted source? If so please can you send me Personal Message?
Thanks in anticipation xx

You will need a prescription for Thybon T3 which is a German brand.
Most of the T3 available without prescription is 25mcg. Buy a pillcutter to quarter the tablet into 6.25mcg doses and start with 6.25mcg dose added to your Levothyroxine to see how you tolerate it. If good, you can increase to 2 x 6.25mcg doses.
What are your recent TSH, FT4 and FT3 results and ranges? The 10mcg T3 your endo recommended is equivalent to 30mcg Levothyroxine so you might be undermedicated if you reduce Levothyroxine to 50mcg.
I asked if I could have a private prescription as the NHS will not fund T3, but as it was a NHS hospital appointment, I was told I couldn't get a private prescription! Do you know of anywhere I can buy 25mcg of Thybon Henning? I have a pill cutter. I have not had sight of the blood test results, as not all had returned from the lab. But the Endo actually said the T3 and T4 were both low - especially the T3. Usually I get a letter with the results in a couple of weeks. If I get 25mcg of Thybon I can just cut it in half - I was told it will need titration at first
I've no idea where you can obtain Thybon 20mcg without prescription. Perhaps you could try an alternative 25mcg T3. If T4 is low I wouldn't reduce Levothyroxine dose when you add T3.
