To check glucose level..

To know whether one has diabetes or not ? What test to take in these below mentioned tests... Am confused which one to take among these... Suggest one... Pls ...

1.Random blood glucose level.

2.Fasting blood glucose level.

3.The HbA1c blood test.

4.Oral glucose tolerance test.

5.Capillary blood glucose (home monitoring).

6.Urine test for blood sugar (glucose).

Amy wont your GP check this for you? Mine did? They usually start with a non fasting blood test. This can then be followed up with a fasting blood test before getting into anything else. Why not ring Diabetes UK helpline they will advise you am sure.

I'm a Type 1 diabetic. The best test is an A1c because it measures blood glucose over a 3-month period. People can have good fasting, yet go quite high after meals. An A1c gives the best snapshot. If you get an A1c, post your results or PM me. Often sadly what doctors say is a normal A1c is not healthy or normal.
