Medichecks thyroid results

Hi all,

I've just got my blood test results back from Medichecks.

On 19/12/2017 my TSH level, measured by GP, was 5.75 so that's improved nicely (I've been on 75mcg Levo instead of 50mcg since then).

I'm not sure about the antibody readings however, it seems that one is too high but the other is fine (?) - does this mean I have Hashimoto's?

Any comments on these results? I'm still learning! All I know is have been ill for a long time.

THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE 2.86 mIU/L (0.27 - 4.20)

FREE THYROXINE 17 pmol/L (12.00 - 22.00)

TOTAL THYROXINE (T4) 102.0 nmol/L (59.00 - 154.00)

FREE T3 4.82 pmol/L (3.10 - 6.80)

THYROGLOBULIN ANTIBODY *331.000 IU/mL (0.00 - 115.00)

THYROID PEROXIDASE ANTIBODIES <9.0 IU/mL (0.00 - 34.00)

Thanks!

Jane

NHS only consider high TPO antibodies as confirmation of Hashimoto's.

High TG antibodies are often also present in Hashimoto's, but can be high due to other things as well.

Have you had vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested by GP?

If not, would be good idea. Very often low when hypo and may need supplementing

Haven't had vitamins tested yet, that will be next I think.

The antibodies thing is quite confusing!

TG antibodies should come down as TSH lowers.

TPO antibodies respond to gluten free diet, but I don't think TG antibodies do

Does anyone know why just TG antibodies would be high? Sorry, it’s a bit random but I’m trying to figure things out.

Several reasons

Hashimoto's is one, but not exclusively so

There is room to increase your thyroid meds as well but get you vit rested first as if dire supplementing will raise results of vits which in turn will help your thyroid results.
