during a Hashi's flare? I had this alot after my daughter was born right before I was diagnosed, again last year before I got on the right dose and it's happening again. Am I the only one that gets this? I've searched this forum and googled it but haven't found anything....

Thanks, it doesn't make me cough I just get a very strange tingling sensation for about 30 seconds or so on and off during the day. I do also feel some pain sometimes as well.

Interesting. I got pain in the oesophagus (neck throat) and wondered if I had an ulcer or even was working up to a heart attack. It went within a day or two after I lowered my dose. My doctor, who is really interested in thyroid and very experienced, said that this is a known symptom in thyroid problems and quite a few of his patients have had it. I have actually had it about three times and when it happens it feels really acute. I went to another doctor convinced that I must have an abscess on my larynx (which had happened many years ago) but my throat was not even red. Naturally that doctor looked at me as if I was a bit of a nut and I looked at him as if he hadn't examined me properly. But in fact my throat would not have been red. Another thing that happens is easily choking on food or drink, especially when also trying to talk. I really have to watch it, but it probably coincides with the throat pain.

Good timing! I've had that for the last few weeks. It seems to get worse at different times of the day but I can't figure out why.

Thanks, same here, for about 30 seconds on and off during the day.

Hi Kalicocat - yes! For years I got this tingling/soreness in the throat which felt like the onset of a cold every few months, followed by other symptoms. Now I know those were hashi's swings, proper medication plus gluten free diet took care of that.

I still have intermittent choking and odd pains though, like Astridnova describes.

Thank you for asking this, I had not found answers either.

Mine is just very strong tingling that I have never felt at any other time in my life.

Ooos, sorry, Kalicocat - it was so interesting reading your question and the answers because I had thought I was the only one, so got away from your question.

But yes, those symptoms ahowed up at the start of flares.

Good luck with the endo - let us know if he/she takes these symptoms seriously!

Thanks milupa, but I live in Canada, I might not get in to see one until I'm 93.... I have seen this endo before and at that time he was all about treating symptoms not TSH, I hope he hasn't changed his mind by listening to the newest (and stupidest) thyroid studies released over the last 5 or so years.

I’ve got Graves, but certainly experience this when I’m hyper.

Thanks everyone, good to know, I'll stick that in my list of symptoms if I ever get into the endo!

When I’ve over done it and am about to ‘crash’ the day or 2 after, I get pain in the front of my neck. It’s uncomfortable and feels strange as it’s not in my throat and is not muscular so must be my thyroid. I’ve got Hashi’s and think this is a sign I’m about to flare and possibly the pain is because it’s inflamed, but that’s just my opinion as the endo just shrugged her shoulders when I asked!

Yes, I get this in the day and in bed. Had it quite a while, practically every day and/or night, also chocking on saliva. I haven't been diagnosed yet with anything thyroid related, still struggling to make doctors understand my symptoms. I have had this strong tingling on the right hand side of my throat, sometimes on the left hand side, deep in my throat. I had it a lot in bed last night - starts with the tingling sensation and then often makes my eyes water and then I have to swallow hard and then quite often an automatic cough. I have been searching for a while on the net to see if anyone had it and today this thread came up, so I am pleased to find it is not something strange and I am not the only one. I did tell a consultant recently, but none of these symptoms are taken seriously. Also, often leaves me with a feeling of a lump in my throat.
