Hypothyroid and 7 weeks pregnant

Just had a 7 week scan which showed a twin pregnancy. I have been advised to organise a referral to a endocrine-ante natal clinic which is proving challenging- apparently it may take 6 weeks. The fertility clinic have advised me to double dose of thyroxine two days a week. Does this sound ok for the whole of the first trimester there is currently no plans to repeat thyroid function tests. Am i just stressing over nothing or do I need to do anything else as 6 weeks seems a long time to wait before any further action. Thanks

Congratulations, Stary!

Do you know what your thyroid results and ranges are? TSH needs to be in the low-normal range 0.4 - 2.5.

NICE recommends increasing dose by 30%-50% when pregnancy is confirmed to ensure good foetal development. cks.nice.org.uk/hypothyroid...

Management of primary hypothyroidism: statement by the British Thyroid Association Executive Committee

13. The serum TSH reference range in pregnancy is 0·4–2·5 mU/l in the first trimester and 0·4–3·0 mU/l in the second and third trimesters or should be based on the trimester-specific reference range for the population if available. These reference ranges should be achieved where possible with appropriate doses of L-T4 preconception and most importantly in the first trimester (1/++0). L-T4/L-T3 combination therapy is not recommended in pregnancy (1/+00).

Last tsh was 1.87 in october so hopefully still ok :) but would like reassurance from gp or referral that this is ok and shouldnt need to increase more for the first trimester :s
