GP summons re ndt and NHS directive re Liothyronine

My GP was very understanding today. She raised the NHS directive and said there has been a lot of messaging between the pharmacist they consult over my ndt. Ive been on a ndt for ten years. I went through all the other options first....that is Levothyroxine, then levothyroxine and Liothyronine before going onto a ndt. She admitted that Levothyroxine did not work for me and am very stable on ndt. I mentioned the BTA recent article. She was aware. Basically I have to be referred back to the Endo I saw to be reviewed. I do understand.....all the nonsense that has gone on over the years re ndt has left the medical profession paranoid but not the patient. We learnt that we have to take charge by understanding our conditions and what works for us each.

A big thank you for all your fantastic support and really useful article links that others on here gave me. Really helped me today. 😊😊 Am so grateful to all the wonderful knowledgable people on this site. It really is a case of power to the people

May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Christmas. πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ‰πŸŽΆπŸŽ‰πŸΎπŸ—β˜ƒοΈπŸ±

Thankyou

Waveylines,

If you've been recommended NDT by an endocrinologist I don't understand why you have to re-referred for him to restate his recommendation. I think it's a grievous waste of the endo's and your time.

Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Totally agree Clutter.

Unfortunately my GP Practise will not prescribe a ndt no matter if it has already been recommended (& it has several times!) unless it is under the ongoing supervision of an Endocrinologist.....seems forever more......no matter how stable I am. They say as the brand I take is not listed which it isnt they need a specialist to oversee its prescribing as it is prescribed on a 'named patient basis.' That is the terms and conditin they have insisted on. If I refuse they will not continue to prescribe. I assume their legal team have insisted on this for insurance purposes to cover their backs.

They were not aware that the Endocrinologist had signed me off.....understandably as am stable. Hey ho.....Will leave the medical profession to battle this one out!!!
