Hi everyone

I posted on here a few weeks ago as I was having problems with weight gain. In March of this year I switched to NDT & lost 44 lbs.

My symptoms have returned with weight gain being the biggest. I am putting on about 2lbs on every week.

I had a private blood test done where my t3 wasn’t optimal.

I went to the GP last week requesting bloods & he agreed to test TSH T3 & B12 etc.

I will post the results.

TSH 0.01 (0.2-4.0)

Free T3 8.2 (3.5-6.5)

Free T4 27.2 (11-22.6)

Folate 6.3 (3.0-14.4)

Vitamin b12 502 (211-911)

What explains the weight gain ?

The weight gain could be caused by T3 being over range - too much thyroid hormone can cause weight gain. As you know, thyroid meds are not a weight control device. Any thyroid imbalance can affect your metabolism.

Could you alter diet to low carb, high fats (good fats) as suggested on diabetes.co.uk website and reduce meds?

Thank you for your reply. I am on a very low carb diet.

What I don’t understand is my private blood test that was done 3 weeks ago my results didn’t suggest I had to much t3

T3 was 5.43 (3.10-6.80)

T4 104.0 (59.00 - 154.00)

The only thing that changed was I increased my ndt to an extra 150mg capsule for 6 days to see if that would help with the weight gain but instead I gained weight with it.

RT3 possibly.

Thanks for replying

The results are incorrect as I increased my thyrogold to 5 capsules about a week before having the test & then went back to 4. I just realised earlier when I opened my diary hence they seem to suggest I’m overmedicated

I read that about the labs. The more T4 you add into the equation, the more RT3 you add at this level. (either 4 or 5 thyrogolds) Personally, I would reduce to 3x thyrogold and add the T3 until things hopefully got better.

I think that’s a good idea & will try that from tomorrow.

It's going to take at least 6 weeks for the T4 to settle down from the 4x thyrogold. Don't be disappointed if things don't improve too quickly!

Good advice as I’m very impatient but will definitely see how I go with 3 thyrogold & some t3. To lose 44 pounds & then start putting it back on is so so depressing
