I have been on Vitamin D3 1000iu for over a year to address a deficiency. Levels are now fine, but I still keep worrying about the fact people claim it can raise blood calcuim levels
Obviously calcium in the arteries is a major health risk, so need I worry? Can I check it?

You can have a calcium blood test to check it. I've been supplementing around 5,000iu per week (10,000iu during winter) for a few years and calcium has never been elevated.
Some but not all GPs actually do a check for the levels of calcium and phosphate in your blood to look at your bone health and check you don't have issues with your parathyroid - so it is worth asking if you haven't had these tests done.
Unfortunately when they do these tests is inconsistent as some will do it in the beginning and repeat the test when you have been supplementing vitamin D a few months, others will only test them at the beginning, and others will do it just when you have been supplementing a few months.
If they do it when you have been supplementing a while then it will rule out any issues with calcium levels.
You can get these tests done yourself via the private providers in their more comprehensive packages if the GP refuses to test it for you.
Like Clutter I've not had any issues with my calcium levels in the years I've been supplementing vitamin D, and my supplement level of vitamin D has varied.
My calcium levels eventually rose above the top of the range butcthen I learnt I should be taking K2 and magnesium. I was already taking Magnesium but added K2 and level back in range. K2 takes the calcium out of the blood and sends it to the bone and teeth and the Magnesium locks it in.
