just to say that the endocrinology consultants at the Countess of Chester NHS hospital are very forward thinking and diagnosed me straight away with subclinical hypothyroidism with a TSH at 1, high antibodies and low T4, and were happy to put me on levothyroxine. If anyone's in the area I strongly recommend them

MrsAlice,
How low was T4? Was the diagnosis secondary hypothyroidism?
he said subclinical hypothyroidism, TSH 1.16 and T4 10.5 (12-22), high tg ab and I was quite symptomatic for hypo.
MrsAlice,
Low-normal TSH with T4 below range indicates secondary/central hypothyroidism which is due to TSH insufficiency. Did endo mention doing pituitary function blood tests?
Your advice will seem like a Christmas Present to many on the forum, who are struggling with doctors and endocrinologists who appear to not have passed any exams about the function of the thyroid gland.
I am glad you've found doctors who are knowledgeable.
Thank you so much for your post. I have recently moved to Chester and in desperate need to find a decent Endo.
I’m on armour thyroid but my gp doesn’t know how to manage me or interpret my results.
Thanks again for your post as I will now ask my gp to refer me.
wow I'm so glad I was able to help! Yes don't waste any money on private ones that might not even understand you, there's a few weeks to wait for an appointment but if something is not clear the consultant in the mean time writes to you via post. They're really good and understanding! The whole team!
I am now in the Chester area so this is good news, have you a name you can send me of anyone in particular. Symptomatic, family history, but always sent away like a naughty school girl.
Many thanks
