June 2017

Vitamin D total 33.4 nmol/L (25 - 50 Vitamin D deficiency. Supplementation is indicated)

Folate 2.3 ug/L (2.5 - 19.5)

Vitamin B12 241 pg/L (190 - 900)

Ferritin 32 ug/L (30 - 400)

Been taking 800iu D3 since 2014 when vitamin D was 35.1 nmol/L. Diagnosed with iron deficiency in 2014 with ferritin and MCV below range. MCV still below range now. Waiting for GP appointment next week for next B12 injection since I have changed practices. Tried to get this arranged over the phone but new GP refused to order B12 injection because she hadn't yet seen me and as a result I cannot take my folic acid until after I have my B12 injection. I have symptoms of feeling cold, tiredness, hard stool, hair loss, weight gain, pins and needles, cramps, bone pain, dry skin. Any advice appreciated thanks

Your vitamin levels are dire and difficult to improve because you are under medicated and because GP has no idea that Hashimoto's affects the gut so badly

Have you got the full iron panel results?

With Hashimoto's we need high dose Vitamin D. 800iu has done nothing to raise your dose in 3 years.

You are waiting to see a new GP, hopefully she will be more on the ball than the last.

You need increase in Levothyroxine, but very likely to find you also need to be strictly gluten free too

You can ask new GP for coeliac blood test, but it's not a reliable test. To wait for endoscopy takes months and with Hashimoto's we are far more likely gluten intolerant not coeliac. It has the same effect, but there's no current test for gluten intolerance.

If you read posts daily on here you will see GP mismanagement of Hashimoto's is widespread. The gut, gluten and vitamin connections are just not considered.

Hi Nekko, I would say you are very ill from the look of both your posts. What a shame that after all this time when you should have made lots of progress you are more ill than most of the newly diagnosed patients who come here.

I know most conventional doctors do not understand autoimmune conditions. You have Hashimoto's and there are about 80 various other ones. Basically it starts in the gut and rattles your immune system. From there the target can be your thyroid, your brain, etc. and you have Hashimoto's, MS, Parkinson's, Crohn's, Celiac, etc. but they have similar beginnings. The enemies of your gut are antibiotics, GLUTEN, processed foods, sugar and for some dairy and corn. The stomach gets very inflamed and then cannot produce the conditions to digest your food thoroughly which then leads to deficiencies. This may all be new to you but there is a lot of research behind all of it. Unfortunately doctors don't have time to study them.

You had good advice from Clutter and Susie but I see your GP is not going to cooperate so you may have to take some action on your own. Nothing will improve without a higher level of vitamin D (which is really a prohormone) which makes all the other hormones work. You should be taking 4,000 units per day or equal to that every few days. Let's start feeling better!
