Flu virus: I'm Christine I have gad flu type... - Thyroid UK
Flu virus
I am convinced that my ongoing problems with sinus infections over the years are connected to my auto-immune under-active thyroid condition.
Every time I get a particularly nasty virus,it is followed by weeks of sinus pain.I have had to spend weeks sleeping extremely propped up,or risk waking up with severe pains in the head.
Last March I had the worst attack ever, after a virus, & had to get up several times in the night for 3 weeks,to put my head under a towel & inhale steam, take paracetamol with cafeine(plain paracetamol not strong enough)& sit in a chair with a freezer block clamped against my head.I always ended up taking 2 or 3 courses of penicillin.
Since then,I have used my "Sinugator" every day, morning and evening(battery-operated sinus rinse device with own sachets)also "Sterimar"seawater nasal spray several times a day.
I am just recovering from that awful virus that is going the rounds,& so far,no sinus attack.I added "Sterimer Stop & Protect"nasal spray during the illness.
In addition to switching to NDT,I have been taking Ashwaghanda, red reishi & rhodiola for my immune system & fatigue.
PS for immediate relief of pain caused by build up of pressure in the sinus cavities, you cannot beat bowl of boiling water, head under towel as often as helps.Do not add menthol or Olbas etc-too irritating to the eyes
Clyde123,
Hot water with slice of lemon and a couple of teaspoons of honey will ease a tickly throat and cough. Drink throughout the day and take 2 glasses to bed. Drink one hot and use the other to sip if you wake in the night as it 'oils' the throat and relieves tickle better than water. Ask your pharmacist for advice about sinus pain.
