Trying to get t3 right

Hi

Latest bloods

Tsh almost zero

T4 right at top if range

T3 below bottom of range

I have seen consultant who basically told me to source my own t3. So I have. Advice from here suggested I reduced 125 t4 to 75 plus half a t3, which is 12.5. I actually take three quarters t3 which I find better.

Energy improved. Weight not budged. But my breasts have got much bigger. Also a bit uncomfortable and itchy. I sleep much better than when on t4, as I was clearly over medicated according to consultant.

Can anyone advise pls? I am thinking I may need more t3? It was very low.

Thank you

Jacqui

Would you be able to post blood results and if you've had vitamins tested, post those too? Sounds like there could be other things going on with such below range T3. Do you take other meds or have coexisting conditions? If vitamins are very low you may have trouble absorbing T3 too.

Jacqui71,

T3 isn't an instant fix and it isn't a weight loss aid. It takes time to metabolise and once your metabolism is improved you may be able to lose some weight. You are taking 18.75mcg T3 which is equivalent to 56.25mcg T4 so you have increased your overall dose slightly. I suggest you order a thyroid test including FT3 6-8 weeks after starting 18.75mcg T3 to check FT3 remains within range. thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin... Medichecks offer #Thyroid Thursday discounts.

Something still not right though not sure how long you have added T3 but be aware, doctors often aren't, that taking T3 in any form then TSH will be suppressed, my Endo said could fall to zero, FT4 can fall but FT3 should be high in range which isn't happening for you.

If it is thought you were over medicated on T4 that suggests to me that FT4 was high and FT3, if tested, low so that would mean you probably not converting so adding T3 is may be a little premature. Have you any recent results for Vit D, B12, folate and ferritin? The Fab Four help the Thyroid to convert better so if you aren't optimum in all those you will continue to struggle. So get those tested if you have nothing recent and let us know the results and ranges. Hold off the T3 for the moment as you can only rest for conversation issues if taking Levo as you need the FT4 reading to compare with the FT3. When on T3 in any form then only the FT 3 is accurate so not able to compare. Just need to approach things in the right order. Getting the bits etc up to scratch isn't an instant fix though and can take months rather than weeks if very low but it's well worth the effort.
