I have been taking 175mcg levo for a month. I am thin so my endo reduced my dose to 25mcg so that I may gain weight. Is this appropriate? Was on T3 very briefly which helped my symptoms. Thank you

I am afraid you have seen the same Endo as about 100 other people on here who having been prescribed and felt better on T3, now seem to be being punished ny their NHS Endo for having the temerity to feel well. We have seen lots of patients on this forum having their T3 withdrawn and Levothyroxine dose reduced severely and drastically by an Endo when their FT3 and FT4 are in range and no need to reduce. The net result is terrible misery, plunged into nutritional deficiency. Stomach bacteria upset and horrible symptoms. Write a letter of complaint. Copy it to CCG, Local Healthwatch and maybe the CQC and do not see that Endo again. Get Levothyroxine dose increased via GP
Thin is no excuse to deprive anyone of essential hormone.
Look him up, I bet he is a diabetes specialist and that explains everything.
You might be able to find him by Googling your hospital + Dr Jerk Endo ( ) or Google the hospital then look for Endocrinology Department then staff should be listed.
TrishaD73 Your reply isn't showing on the forum for me but I can see it in my email notification
Hi yes he's listed as MD and MRCP of diabetes and endocrinology ...
MD - doctor of medicine
MRCP - Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians
of diabetes and endocrinology - and there you have 'diabetes' and no mention of thyroid. You have a diabetes specialist, most of them are. Apparently, during their time at medical school, approximately half a day is devoted to the thyroid and it just scratches the surface. Very, very few endocrinologists specialise in the thyroid and as such they have no clue how to treat it.
My weight improved when I was on T3 then I had 7kg unwanted weight loss when I was switched to Levothyroxine. Weight would increase by 2.5 - 3kg when I was taken off Levothyroxine for RAI then fall of when I resumed Levothyroxine. Weightloss stopped on T4+T3 but it took 5 years to regain that 7kg.
I was advised to eat frequent small meals to maintain and slowly gain weight. Most helpful was having protein shakes inbetween meals.
