Hello T3 questions..

Hi

I think I am one of the 25% of people who dont convert T4 to T 3 but approaching my GP about it was akin to saying I believed in a flat earth or something... how can I get T3 from abroad? could anyone pm me advice please ? I see there is T3 for sale on strange body building sites on the ner, but am hoping to get a good quality German make ..but how.?

ffranny Please stay away from body building sites, you don't know what you'll be getting.

As for adding T3 to your (presumably) Levo, if you post your latest results to include TSH, FT4 and FT3 (both free Ts are essential to have been done at the same time) then advice can be given about how to add T3 and whether Levo needs adjusting.

As for German T3, if that is Thybon Henning I think you need a prescription for that.

Thanks for your reply. I dont think my GP did all these tests, just TSH and another. I am on 150 mcg thyroxine but I know I am not right. I have been like this for years and years.

With respect, I’m not surprised your GP bombed you out if that’s the level of your argument (TSH and another...).

When I was on Levo, I did my own blood test via Bluehorizons & took the results in showing that my FT3 was exactly the same level with 100mcg Levo as it was without. Also my RT3 sky high.

Also took in print outs & books by Dr Peatfield & Skinner.

If you are in the UK then we are legally entitled to a print out of our test results. So your first step should be to go along to your surgery and ask at reception for your results, get a print out, don't accept the receptionist giving them to you verbally or writing them down (mistakes can happen, they don't always understand the results). When you have your results, post them on the forum and we can see where your levels lie.

It's no good adding T3 because you think you need it, you could do more harm than good. You have to know you're not converting T4 to T3 well enough. So it's essential that FT4 and FT3 are done at the same time. If your GP can't get FT3 done then you will be better off getting a private fingerprick test with Blue Horizon or Medichecks.

If you're not converting very well then you need to know why. It could be because of nutrient levels not being optimal, you could also have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) which tends to cause low nutrient levels. All these need looking into and putting right if there's a problem, before you can know if you need T3.

So ideally, the following tests should be done

TSH

FT4

FT3

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin

and if Ferritin is low you'll need

Iron Panel

Full Blood Count.

Come back with the results, either from your GP or a private test, and members will help and advise.

You can get it from Germany but only with a prescription.

Thanks I will find a better source and get my last results off my GP tho I dont think they did T3

You will need to see an endocrinologist to get other medication than Levothyroxine. GP's are not able to prescribe any T3 or NDT. Often the labs won't even test T3, T4 or RT3 even when the GP request them! Ask to be referred to the Endocrinologist and get as much information as possible to back your case for alternative medication to Levothyroxine - if you can afford it get private blood tests to get T3, T4, RT3 and antibodies checked. Medichecks tend to be the best value for money. Good luck x

From these I am going to het back on thyroxine for a few weeks to then get a baseline bloodtest from the places you recommend. Then I will,post results back on here and see what you think, and get some T3 I guess. I know I am not well on thyroxine so not looking forward to this, but in the name of science!
