Thyroid UK responded to NHS England regarding the proposal to deprescribe Liothyronine for all patients, as outlined in section 4.9 of the document “Items which should not be routinely prescribed in primary care: A Consultation on guidance for CCGs”
Due to the complexity of our response, Thyroid UK's submission is in the form of a written document, rather than use the online form that was provided.
I can't wait to see their summary of responses - if they publish such a thing. I guess it will be something like - "We had 349 responses to liothyronine, 348 disagreed with deprescribing [the one that didn't disagree didn't understand the term 'to deprescribe'], 3000 others who answered the survey didn't comment on that aspect of the survey so on balance your views will be ignored."
Thank you, I have filed a copy. It's really useful to read the section on how CCG's have been making decisions not to prescribe it and the fact that endocrinologists have been given a target to reduce presription by 60%. No wonder we've seen so many distressed ill people on this forum who've had it whipped out from under their nose and left hypothyroid and ill.
Is it ok to pass this on to friends and even our GP or is it confidential?
Thank you for this comprehensive, logical reply. It must have taken a lot of time to compile, so thank you! I have saved it as the references are really useful to have in one place.
