Had total thyroidectomy and cancerous lymph nodes removed due to papillary cancer 3.5 weeks ago. Since June I have suffered with hot and coldflushes, mainly at night. Im sure its not menopause. Any ideas what I csn do? Driving me mad!

Lindsaydawson603,

Low B12 can nause nightsweats. Ask your GP to check B12 and folate. If you can have ferritin and vitamin D checked too.

I wish I could give you some suggestions but perhaps it's just your body adjusting to hormonal changes.

Not just in range, but good levels. Have you seen the actual results?

Not yet. Vit D was deficient in September, been taking 5000iu daily since with Vit K. Not retested yet. Iron and everything else was quite good. Currently taking B12 complex, Vits C and E, & selenium

Is that vitamin B12 sublingual lozenges and also vitamin B complex?

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

No its just B complex. The ingredients listed include B12 as 900ug or 15000% DV whatever that means!

So did you stop taking it 3-4 days before test?

Biotin can falsely affect test results

See link I gave you

900ug = 900 micrograms

15000% DV means 150 times the Daily Value

Those figures indicate an assumption of 6 micrograms a day.

For many substances, what looks like massive over-dosing is definitely to be avoided. But for B12, the amount you absorb will only be a small fraction of amount swallowed. For most people, such large doses are not a problem.

I didnt start taking any supplements till after tests. I haven't been tested since.

That looks far too complicated for little old me to understand!

I had similar experience , Thyca , TT . No antibodies ever testtd for . Complicated now by lupus .

However , I gave up gluton and found a lot of relief from hot flushes . Sleep was very poor but I am getting 6 hrs most nights now. unheard of because mainly because of hot dry flushes. Worth a try if u havent already.

Im about 6 weeks doing so , hope it continues to help .

Best wishes
