This is my most recent weird thing to happen. I have just turned 60 and I'm suddenly getting the most viscious hot flushes. They start with a tingling sensation behind my ears and then my face goes bright red and almost swollen, and around all my joints also comes a red rash and my whole body itches like crazy. It's frightful. It can last up to ten minutes before it starts to subside. Then I get freezing cold and shiver uncontrollably. And then, after it has subsided I feel odd for the rest of the day. There's no sweating. I have had the odd hot flush over the years but nothing like this. My periods stopped over 5 years ago. And another weird thing....it always happens at about 10.30 - 11.00am. Nor every day thank heavens, but maybe three or four times a week. Anyone else get anything similar?

Hot flushes....
Hi Elsa, could it be an allergic reaction of some sort? How does that timing relate to any medication or supplements - do you take any within 60/90 mins before the flushing starts?
Hello startagaingirl, yes, I've been wondering along those lines. But I'm not doing anything different except that I have recently added chromium into the supplements I take. Could it be that I wonder. Thing is , my daily routine is always the same....but I don't get one of these episodes every day. I got my first flush a week after starting on the chromium.
Hi, I've just seen your post, I am 55, I first had an experience similar to yours twenty odd years ago, maybe only once or twice a year.
Recently had an episode two days running.
Mine starts in my hands, they get hot and itchy, then up my arms, torso, legs. My chest feels tight, my face turns almost purple.
Can last a couple of minutes to ten or more. Really scary. Can't stop itching or sweating. It reaches a peak,,then it's shivers and freezing till body temp settles. I feel poorly afterwards and completely drained of energy.
Mine usually occurs if I have eaten a large meal or eaten too quickly. Only ever occurs related to food.
I eat more slowly, smaller meals and make sure I am not scrunched when I am eating.
I don't know if this will help you but at least you (and I) know you are not alone.
If I find more info I will contact you on this site.
Goodluck
Thanks Sherlgirl....weird isn't it? I guess mine always happens after breakfast.....sometimes quite a while after, but I've been having the same (quite modest) breakfast for years. I'll have to experiment with cutting things out maybe.....or missing breakfast altogether ? Thanks for your reply, it's good to know you're not alone!
I wake up every single day with a rush of heat to my face and head and spreading...I'm 76!!!........I can empathise with you but have no suggestions to ease it.....let me know if you find anything....
OMG!!! Greenfairy! I take that stuff! Have been for ages! Could it be that they are suddenly affecting me strangely. I won't take tomorrow and see what happens!! I'll let you know!
I will! Excited now! can't wait to not take it tomorrow and see what happens!
Well so far so good! After having a reaction for the last three days, and before that more like every other day....today, nothing. I feel a bit odd, but that's not unusual, and I should think their would be a come down period of sorts as you suggest.
So......very encouraging.....not to say blooming marvellous!!! Thank you so much for seeing my post and replying....it would have taken me ages to work that one out!! I owe you big time!
I'll let you know how it's going a few days down the line
