Hi, I am new to this and had Radio Iodine treatment on August 23rd so is the labs the start of going underactive ?
Lab tesults: Hi, I am new to this and had Radio... - Thyroid UK
Lab tesults
Actually, those results look pretty good - certainly not clinically underactive.
How are you feeling?
I am feeling OK but I have RA and gave had 30 years of fatigue etc. I have terribly dry skin, and skin splitting plus a very bad rash which GP can't identify? My bone density, considering, is OK level but worried I may go underactive due to the radio iodine and the low TSH
How is your vitamin D, B12 & iron? have you had them checked? Some Omega 3 might help with the dry skin. The best sort is from one sort of fish - I think Swanson do a good EFA cod liver oil gel capsule one.
Had D done a while ago and it was fine. Not sure on others .
With Thyroid issues it's important to try and get things optimal rather than just in the normal range.
That is the hard part with getting GPs to understand. I get another test in February.
I get my own blood tests done using Medichecks. They usually do cheap thyroid related offers on a Thursday. The cheapest option is to do finger prick tests with them where you drip a bit of blood into a mini test tube and send it off. I'm afraid that the chances are you will need to take charge of getting your own vitamin levels as close as you can to just right.
Thank you, i will keep the info
Welcome to our forum and am sorry you had to have RAI. From your blood test results it would seem you are in a good place at present. If you feel well with no symptoms that's good and this is an excerpt from the following link:
Can hyperthyroidism be cured completely?
Antithyroid medication, radioactive iodine, and surgery are all effective treatments and can restore thyroid function to normal. Radioactive iodine and surgery also can “cure” the hyperthyroidism by removing the thyroid. ... However, the thyroid stimulating antibodies may return causing the Graves disease to relapse.
If you have to get another blood test for thyroid hormones, always get the very earliest appointment, fasting (you can drink water). If you were on replacement thyroid hormones you'd allow 24 hours between last dose and test and take afterwards.
Thank you for the info it is so complicated and having Rhuematoid does not help as the syptoms are similar. I will just keep a check on my blood tests to see how they go. At nearly 70 its difficult to get me head around it all but at leadt i understand my RA
