Did you manage to get a copy of your blood results? I think in your last post you said parents had access to them. Can you share your age?

Ideally we need to see TSH, FT4, FT3 plus the antibody tests that confirm Graves. Have you been offered a beta blocker to help with palpitations/ racing heart? What thyroid medication has been suggested or are you been monitored with no treatment plan started?

The above link has a wealth of information on Graves Disease.

Graves Disease (hyperthyroidism) needs to be confirmed via positive TRab or TSI:

TRab

TSH receptor antibodies

TSI

Thyroid-Stimulating Immunoglobulin

Can you take a photo of your results and share them?

It must be very stressful for you experiencing such adverse symptoms at such a young age. We are here to help and support you. Can you ask your parents to help you contact your medical team for a print out of the blood tests, as members here could offer better advice to you ‘with a full picture of your thyroid health’

It is also a good idea to ask your medical team to test key thyroid vitamins: folate, ferritin, B12 and vitamin D. Having these optimal will really help. It is not recommended to supplement without testing levels first/ sharing results with us.

That is normal with Graves and it is very frustrating. Don't worry, it will go away once you are on antithyroid meds.

Are your parents with you to offer support, or any other family members/ friends?

Please don’t try to do too much; rest as much as you can whilst you are awaiting guidance from your medical team. However, if your symptoms worsen at all, it is important to seek medical advice.

You can to delay your school exams etc for another year -

First get your health back on track - you are currently too ill to do school work - :

You have been prescribed an Anti Thyroid drug - so hopefully in a few weeks time you will feel more comfortable.

Have you been prescribed a Beta Blocker for your racing heart symptoms - if not - ask for one :

I see you are in the States - you may like to look at another website and forum - much like this one which specialises in Graves Disease and Auto Immune which is Stateside and where you may find other Graves sufferers closer to you - and in your time zone for ease of communiation ? elaine-moore.com

In the UK we are treated with the AT drug for around 15-18 months which semi-blocks your new, daily, thyroid hormone production while we wait for your immune system to calm down again and your thyroid hormone production revert to normal function.

Quite why your immune system has decided to turn and attack your body rather than defend it is of course another question for another day - with Graves - stress and anxiety seem to be common triggers ?

So you are put into a holding position with the AT drug - much like a plane waiting for a landing slot, circling above loosing height and fuel while waiting to land - so as your thyroid hormones start reducing the AT drug as adjusted down and acts a bit like a break - and slowly your T3 and T4 will fall back down into range and you too have a smooth landing.

We do now have some research you may like to read :-

Pushing yourself hard when you are clearly unwell will not help your body heal and recover. Please speak with your teachers; I’m sure they will understand.

Hi tired995,

This has been mentioned a few times, but it is so important that you share this info and dialogue with your parents.

Are you living at home, or still finishing up freshman year and won’t be home for a few weeks?

Managing a newly diagnosed thyroid disorder like graves is an active project … you can’t “set it and forget it” in the beginning.

Have they seen this yet?
