Morning all,
Quick question what are you having for breakfast, I'm struggling to find anything with low calcium/iron and gluten free, any advise would be very much appreciated.

Morning all,
Quick question what are you having for breakfast, I'm struggling to find anything with low calcium/iron and gluten free, any advise would be very much appreciated.
Kev
I vary my breakfasts - sometimes I have tinned fruit with coconut yoghurt. Other times I have a slice of sourdough bread I make, with peanut butter. Or I might have something savoury left over from the previous day, even things like vegetarian fried rice. I long ago had to give up porridge as I can't tolerate oats, unfortunately.
Some great advise there, thank you very much, Sat eating gluten free porridge made with water as we speak.
Kev
Oh dear, that sounds a little bleak! Variety is good, I didn't want to eat fruit every day in case that gave me too much sugar, but I just like to mix things up, anyway. Could you make GF porridge with almond milk? It might not be as bad as you imagine. I have my coffee with almond milk and it's not too bad!
Have you tried corn flour tortillas? They are gluten free. I often put a scrambled egg and avocado in them.
I have gluten free porridge with lactose free milk, sweetened with a banana. Same thing every day.
Today I will have one soft boiled egg, one small avocado, two Brazil nuts (three if small) for selenium.
One glass of reverse osmosis water with 226mcg of Iodine, and I tsp of coconut butter.
I have hypothyroidism, and am also gluten free 🦋
That sounds good, are you hashimoto, just asking because I've seen that iodine is not ideal if your autoimmune.
Kev
Hi again, I’ve only just had my first round of thyroid antibodies blood work, despite having been diagnosed with hypothyroidism about nine years ago. *Thank you TUK for letting me know the things that doctors never did!*
Anyway, the antibodies weren’t very high. Hopefully I don’t have it but I have been told you need to get to anti-bodies tests done on three separate occasions to rule it out. I guess the anti-bodies could be dormant but I could still have a flareup in future, if I do even have it. (Hoping I don’t)
Some people think even if you don’t have Hashimoto’s but you just have hypothyroidism that you should not use iodine for supplementation purposes. But just as many people if not many more it seems to me think that it is necessary but should be monitored. I just joined on July 17 so I’m still learning all this stuff. Money is an issue and I don’t have proper medical insurance so I’m just kind of moving along slowly and experimenting a bit.
Hope you don’t mind the long rambling message.
Good morning! 🌞
I love my gluten free porridge, I make it with half milk half water. It does make me constipated though, especially if I don't drink enough straight after.
I have anal fissures at the moment, well since the beginning of June. I've given up all grains for the time being, and have gone gluten free to see if it helps.
At the moment my breakfast is an avocado with an apple or pear or both.
If you drink tea and coffee this reduces iron.
Half milk/water good idea ill try that, I did think about going full grain free but thought if I can't enjoy food what's the point, it's hard isn't it.
Kev
Hi kev, It's rotten when you can't eat what you want. I have a really painful anal fissure, it's been a process of elimination to see which foods constipate me. The advice for a fissure is bulk up on wholegrains, I eat them anyway, but since I gave up all grains things have definitely been easier. I do worry about my B Vits though, but take a B complex supplement. I've also noticed how much easier it is to lose weight too, 11lbs in 4 weeks! I'm going to keep this up.
Seeing a colorectal surgeon next month, and will probably get an operation, so losing some weight is a good thing before that!
I have a two egg omelette with either blueberries, sliced mushrooms, spinach or a mashed ripe banana mixed into the eggs although that's very 'carby' so I only do that once a week or so, I sometimes have a couple of boiled eggs plus half a pink grapefruit.
I used to make lovely gluten free oatmeal muffins, unfortunately I discovered that they spiked my blood sugar so I gave them up in favour of the omelettes.
How about Quinoa porridge with almond milk topped with almonds and raspberries? Nice for colder days.
Hi, nit sure we're the calcium is coming in as the Milk uses us unsweetened almond milk.
I have gluten-free oatmeal hot cereal with banana and coffee. It's very good.
Avocado toast!!
Toast a slice of gluten free bread (I bake my own). Spread mashed avocado on it (that has a splash of lemon juice mixed in) and top with a fried egg (over easy or sunny side up) seasoned with sea salt and smoked pepper. For a treat add two slices of crisp bacon under the egg.
FULL of tasty fats and protein and keeps you satisfied all morning long. I add a glass of reduced sugar OJ and a side of fresh fruit (red raspberries, fresh pineapple, blackberries and/or strawberries). Yum!!
Now that I will try tomorrow, yummy. Try this on salmon, mash avocado add lemon himalayan salt/pepper and chop 6 olives mix and put on the salmon.

I don't know if Oats porridge can do. Plse check out but I know oats is healthy and recommended for diabetic too.
