Breakfast advice for Levo takers

Random question incoming.....

So I am a couple of weeks into overhauling my diet/lifestyle for good thyroid function.

For those fellow Levo-only takers can you give me an example of what you eat for breakfast & when?

Currently I’m taking my Levo in morning, I wait at least an hour or then I’ll have Greek yog, honey, seeds, dried fruit & nuts. I take my B complex /b12 after this then I have omega 3.

Looking at good ideas for quick breakfasts so I can try prep in advance as it’s usually a hectic morning with toddlers, drop offs & dashing back for work on time.

Thanks!

Try taking levothyroxine at bedtime ......

Best to avoid calcium rich foods within four hours of levothyroxine

Levothyroxine is an extremely fussy hormone and should always be taken on an empty stomach and then nothing apart from water for at least an hour after

Many people take Levothyroxine soon after waking, but it may be more convenient and perhaps more effective taken at bedtime

verywellhealth.com/best-tim...

No other medication or supplements at same as Levothyroxine, leave at least 2 hour gap.

Some like iron, calcium, magnesium, HRT, omeprazole or vitamin D should be four hours away

(Time gap doesn't apply to Vitamin D mouth spray)

If you normally take levothyroxine at bedtime/in night ...adjust timings as follows prior to blood test

If testing Monday morning, delay Saturday evening dose levothyroxine until Sunday morning. Delay Sunday evening dose levothyroxine until after blood test on Monday morning. Take Monday evening dose levothyroxine as per normal

Ah thanks- so this is a spanner in the works, I’ve been taking the supplements at the wrong times 😂😩🤪 I would prefer to take Levo first thing as I take magnesium before bed & wouldn’t want that to interact. I’ll look at switching the timings around. Is it advisable to do a straight swap to evening?

Supplements I have at the mo are:

B complex (liquid)

B12 (liquid)

Omega 3 (gel capsule)

Iron (capsule)

D3 (liquid)

K2 (tablet)

Magnesium (tablet)

Prescribed meds:

175mg Levo

Think I’ll need a rejig 😬

B vitamins, vitamin D and K2 after breakfast

Iron... after lunch?

Take magnesium straight after evening meal.

Ok that will work, then thyroid before sleep? Might try taking thyroid at 6am then I can have breakfast around 9/10. Evening meal is a hit or miss thing. Sometimes we don’t eat until toddler asleep which can be 7:30pm/8pm. So that would interfere with thyroid / magnesium. Unless I change magnesium to a cream 🤨 it’s like a jigsaw puzzle! 🤪🤪 thanks for your help I can see where I’m going wrong already 🤣🤣🤣

Yes levothyroxine at bedtime....or in night if you regularly get up for the loo

I don’t actually sleep all that well at all. So yes I could probably do thyroxine about 1am 😂😂😂

Right time to change up the schedule again. I’ll start tomorrow as I’ve already had my thyroxine today (6am)

So tonight just move time to middle of night

Helpful if pills are in weekly pill dispenser..

Yep! Have one of them set up. Thought I’d got the order right but clearly not.

So if I take my thyroxine about 3am thursday AM then I take my next on Friday PM?

Hello, great question. I've always been taking my levo in the am then waiting to having food. Take my Vit d after breakfast. Now thinking to switch to bedtime for my levo as i don't eat after 8pm anyway. I do use a magnesium spray tho at bedtime..should i avoid this and maybe do this earlier in the evening? So hard knowing when to take everything?

no..i found i was taking everything at the same time and not realising.. doesn't seem enough hours in the day for all the supplements.

Magnesium spray on skin is fine

Magnesium supplements need to be minimum 4 hours before levothyroxine

Thank you. Think I'll try taking my meds in the eve and see how it goes 😊

Would a magnesium cream be ok too? I’ve seen a nice foot cream with magnesium in you are advised to use before bed- I’m guessing that wouldBe fine?

I have overnight oats - made the day before, very tasty! Oats, almond milk, cacao, protein powder and top with frozen cherries or raspberries. Usually 1-2 hours after Levo dose.

Just to add - I would usually add almond butter to the above ingredients but can't at the moment (gallstones) - that makes them lovely if you like that sort of thing!

This is one of my regulars too. You can added grated carrot and a little cinnamon to the overnight mix for a “carrot cake” experience. Alternatively add some chia seeds - great for digestion.

Oooh, might try grated carrot and cinnamon 😋

I've just divovered overnight oats! I do mine with grated apple, sultanas, a little yogart and cinnamon. I love the cherry idea.

Sometimes I add a bit of almond essence so it's a bit like cherry bakewell :)

These ideas are great thanks everyone!
