A good source of info on blood test results is the Life Extension Foundation in the US. They sell supplements and fund research, but if u become a member you can fax or email results and have a free phone consult with a doctor or NP.

Your B12 is too low and so is folate. You should take methyl B drops or sublinguals and find a methylated B multivitamin. Take selenium too. Your doctor should be prescribing thyroid replacement hormones

I’m being increased to 125 mg levothorxine. And a folic avid tablet. But she never mentioned the b 12 to me.

I asked for am endo referal as I haven’t felt good for years. Drain and wore out I could sleep the clock round. And still be tired.

Sorry that you aren't feeling well. Have had my ups and downs over the last ten years so trust me I understand. A good source of info on optimum B vitamin levels is the Life Extension Foundation also Suzy Choen who is a pharmacist has a book that addresses B vitamins called Drug Muggers. She also has a website.

You may in fact be suffering from adrenal fatigue. There is a book called adrenal fatigue by J. Wilson that may be helpful too.

The first step in trying to feel better is usually diet. Get rid of the sugar and wheat and gluten is a no no for us thyroid sufferers. Eat lots of vegetables, make smoothies in the blender with lots of veggies, sweeten with a little apple. When it comes to vegetables learn your goitergens and don't eat them unless they are cooked. Hope this helps😊

Many thanks. I shall definitely be looking into these.

Do you also have high thyroid antibodies? You need to know. Did GP or Endo ever test these? If not ask that they are tested.

If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known as autoimmune thyroid disease). About 90% of hypothyroidism in UK is due to Hashimoto's.

Hashimoto's very often affects the gut, leading to low stomach acid, low vitamin levels and leaky gut.

Also you need vitamin D testing - extremely common to be too low

And ferritin too

Ask that these are tested asap

They refused to do the vit D

And haven’t had antibodies done. Doc is only doing a referral today for endo. What’s the difference in the under active thyroid and it with Hashimoto

Thanks. I’ll get that booked. Although going to call on Monday about the b12 results and l ask doctor if they’d do it.

Sorry Shaza, I forgot to say that's a home test, you just ring them to order a kit, it arrives in a couple of days, return it and you get the results emailed within a couple of days.

What was your VitD result ?

Shaza70 profile image
Shaza70 in reply toMarz

They didn’t do it. Said no reason to.

Yip. Seriously everytime I go I ask. I sat crying the last time as I’m constantly tired and in bed. My mum was recently diagnosed with cancer and had an operation in her mouth to take most of it away , and I feel so guilty as I leave all the care for her and my wheelchair bound father to my sis. I just feel so tired and sore all the time. I do as much as I can around the house but even then it’s agony.

Yet they still see no reason for b12 and vitamin d test. Or proper hospital endo.

Look above at the reply by SeasideSusie - she gave you the link for the VitD test done in the home with a finger prick .... nothing to do with your GP.

So did something happen about your B12 result ?

Shaza70 profile image
Shaza70 in reply toMarz

Something like what.

If you read your replies above you will read that you mentioned you were going to ask about your B12 test - so I was only asking so I can help you. We cannot suggest anything without seeing your results :-)

Medics know there's a difference but they don't treat Hashimoto's (as they don't know how to)

If we have Hashimoto's much more likely to have poor gut function and then low vitamins

But most importantly very likely to have hidden food intolerances, usually gluten

Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms. Very, very many of us here find it really helps and can slowly lower antibodies.

Many do not make progress until deal with gluten and improve vitamins

If you are seeing an endo and struggling to get adequate treatment this latest article by Prof Toft may be useful

The endo told me on my only visit that he was happy enough to let the go doctors treat me yet he was the one that increased my levothyroxine and put me on the metaformin.

I don’t think he just specified on endo and thyroid issues as when I was walking out it there was a sign saying general medicine
