Ava23,

Yes, results indicate you may have iron deficiency anaemia. labtestsonline.org/understa... What has your GP recommended?

Thankyou GP hasn't recommended anything, I am guessing because my iron and transferrin levels are in range. I have heavy periods and I am 26 yrs old so I think results are from heavy menstrual bleeds

Ava23,

Heavy periods can be due to low iron. You can buy Ferrous Fumarate without prescription from most places excluding Boots. You can take 3 x 210mg daily to improve iron and raise ferritin. Take each tablet with 1,000mg vitamin C to aid absorption and minimise constipation. Iron must be taken 4 hours away from Levothyroxine. You should retest iron & ferritin in 4-6 months to check iron doesn't go too high.
